4:01 P.M.
I had just gone through security at the front of the gated community where Jaquan lived, now I was going around the curve about to pull into his house, well that’s if I was able to find a place to park. I could hear the loud music already, which led me to believe that this party was in full swing. There were a lot of cars parked in the driveway, on the sidewalk, but I was lucky that a neighbor was standing outside and she told me that it was okay if I parked in her driveway.
I got out the car and thanked her and then made my way to my trunk to get the gifts. I walked with the gifts in my hands and to the backyard where the party was taking place. I looked around. The theme of the party was The Little Mermaid, and everything was back here from the three bounce houses, cotton candy machine, Icee machine, face painting, pony rides, and when I pulled up, I saw where they were letting kids go around the block for a train ride.
“Auntie Toyaaaa,” I heard a high pitched voice say.
I looked down and it was my baby China, looking so beautiful in her birthday outfit. She was wearing a black shirt that was decorated in a mermaid theme, that had her name on the front of it and a number seven on the back. She was also wearing a pair of red jeans from true religion and the new Jordan 11’s were on her feet. China had her long hair down her back, with a middle part. I’m pretty sure she had to beg Charlie to let her straighten her hair since it was her birthday because Charlie didn’t like when China’s hair was straight. I put her gifts down on the gift table and went to pick her up and kissed both of her cheeks.
“Happy birthday, China. You’re a big girl now, huh?” I asked her, playing in her hair and she smiled. “Where is your mommy and Auntie Monae?” I asked when I didn’t see them around.
“They in the house,” she said.
I gave her one last kiss and made my way inside the house. I spotted Monae and Charlie in the kitchen and they were both fixing a plate.
“Well, look who finally decided to show up,” Monae said as soon as she spotted me.
“Oh, hush, you knew I had to work today,” I said, hugging her and then Charlie.
Charlie was wearing the exact same thing as China, except her shirt said on the front, “The Birthday Girl’s Mommy.” Her fire red hair was going back in two big braids that stopped just below her ass.
“You see all these damn people here at this party?” Charlie fussed as she took a seat at one of the chairs in front of the table.
“Yeah, I see that. I had to end up parking at the
neighbor’s house. How the hell a seven-year-old girl know all of these damn people?” I asked.
I didn’t even hear what she said because I had tuned her out and focused my attention on what was going on outside. I watched as Diandre sat down in one of the lounge chairs and another female sat next to him feeding him. For a second, our eyes locked on each other and at that moment, I wanted to crawl under a rock. It wasn’t until then that I realized that I really wanted this man because I was jealous as hell to see him with another woman. I didn’t know if what they had was serious, but it had to be something if he was comfortable enough to bring her around. Plus, he knew I would be there.
He turned his head away from me and I was so hurt as I continued to watch the two of them. I couldn’t see old girl’s face, but I knew that she wasn’t fuckin’ with me from the little gut in her stomach that she had going on. Mannnn, I needed this bitch to turn around so that I could get a better look at her. Just like how Diandre didn’t want me entertaining any other niggas, I didn’t want him entertaining any other females.
“Toya, did you hear me? Damn, what the hell are you looking at?” Charlie asked me, getting up from her seat to see what had gotten my attention. She looked and then turned back around to face me.
“Don’t get mad at me because I didn’t know he was bringing somebody with him. I even told Jaquan to tell that hoe to leave, but he said that if she left, then Dre would have to leave too because that’s how she got here,” Charlie said.
I shook it off and nodded my head. Yes, I was hurt and jealous, but I didn’t want to keep showing it. Diandre knew what he was doing by bringing this bitch with him because he knew for a fact that I would be coming. Damn, had I fucked up that bad that he had moved on already?
“Couldn’t have been me. I would have walked my ass over there and snatched that bitch up,” Monae said while she ate her food.
“That’s not my man, so I can’t do that,” I said and stood up from my chair.
“That’s not your man, but you looked pretty pissed off to me,” Monae said.
I playfully mushed her on the side of her head and went to make me something to eat.
The rest of the party went by pretty smooth. I was able to tune out Diandre and his little slave for the entire party. I stayed after everybody had left and helped clean up the mess, along with Monae. Diandre had already left and Quan was in the living room playing the game while us ladies cleaned up the mess. China had tired herself out and was now upstairs in her room asleep.
It was going on midnight, and before I went home, I had a trip that I needed to make. Once we were finished, we all went into the living room and as Charlie went to sit next to Jaquan, he grabbed her by her waist and pulled her into his lap. I smiled as I watched the love the two of them had for each other. Yeah, he fucked up every once in a while, but there was no denying the fact that he loved the hell out of Charlie.
“Bae, who was the bitch that was with Dre? You can tell us that they’re gone,” Charlie said.
I was happy because I was dying to know.
“Touch your nose. But seriously, I don’t know who the hell shorty was. He said that’s just his friend,” Quan said and Charlie looked at me.
“Don’t trust that friend shit, Toya. If you want Dre, your ass better go get him tonight before that bitch does.” Charlie said and I nodded my head.
“Charlie, shut the hell up, trying to be somebody damn counselor and shit,” Jaquan told her and we all burst out laughing. She mushed him in his head.
