“It’s almost six, where you at?” I asked her.

“At Mommy’s. Why, what’s up?” she asked.

“Get dressed, I’ll be over there in a few to pick you up. We got some shit that we need to handle,” I told her.

“Okay, but is everything okay? Is Charlie and the baby okay?” she asked, firing off question after question.

“Everybody is good, Monae. Just be ready because I’ll be there in about another hour or so,” I said and then hung up the phone.

I left the den and took the stairs up to my daughter’s room. When I found her, she was lying at the foot of her bed, damn near about to fall out. I went over to her dresser, took out one of her gowns, and put it on her then placed her under her covers. I placed a kiss on her forehead and then went into my room. My wife was knocked out on my side of the bed.

I went into our walk in closet and pulled out a pair of jeans from Diesel with the matching denim shirt. I paired it with my navy blue Timberlands and went into my drawer where I kept all of my jewelry and pulled out my two Cuban links with the matching bracelet. I hadn’t worn my gold fangs in a while, so I decided to put them on too. I couldn’t come out the house half stepping because TMZ stayed creeping somewhere, and if I was going to be in the magazines this week, I wanted to make sure that a nigga was fly.

“Charlie!” I said, shaking her.

She jumped up out o

f her sleep, looking like she had just seen a ghost.

“Calm down, it’s just me. I’m about to pick up Monae and we’re about to go meet with him,” I said.

She knew exactly who I was talking about. My pride wouldn’t allow me to label him as my father.

“Okay, baby. Do you need me to go with you? We can drop China off at my mom’s house,” she said, sitting up in the bed.

“No baby, go back to sleep, but when I get back, I’ll let you know everything that happened. We’re going to Texas Roadhouse, so I’ll make sure to bring you and China back home some food because I know y’all going to wake up hungry,” I said and leaned in to kiss her lips.

“Okay, baby, and give him a chance. Listen to what he has to say,” my wife said.

She knew how I was when it came to bullshit, and if I wasn’t feeling what he was saying, I was taking my sister with me and we were getting the fuck up out of there.

“Alright, baby, get some rest.”

And with that, I was out the door.

7:15 P.M.

We were running a little late because Monae wasn’t really feeling the situation at first, but after some hard down begging, she had finally agreed to it. I ended up telling her what was up when I picked her up from my mother’s house. Monae was still very much heartbroken over our father’s absence, which is why she didn’t want anything to do with this trip. Myself, on the other hand, I was pretty much done with the entire situation. I just wanted some closure.

We finally pulled up to Texas Roadhouse and it was packed as usual. I parked the car and went around to open the door for my sister. Once she was out, we walked into the restaurant. I knew that he was there already because he had sent me a message a few minutes ago, letting me know that he had been seated. I held the door open for Monae, and as usual, whenever I walked into a room, all eyes were on me. I paid the stares no mind because right now I was on a mission and I had a few questions that I needed answered.

“Welcome to Texas roadhouse. Will it just be the two of you in your party?” the young, black waitress asked, looking at me seductively.

She didn’t even try to hide the lust in her eyes. I’m pretty sure she knew who I was, which meant she knew that I was happily married.

“No, we’re meeting somebody. There he goes right there,” I said after I scanned the restaurant and spotted him in the back with his eyes glued to the menu.

“Okay, just follow me,” she said.

I placed Monae in front of me and let her follow the lady. The man in me just made sure that I always had an eye on the woman that I loved, which meant that I always made sure that they walked in front of me. It made me feel like I was their protection, and it gave them in a sense of relief, knowing that as long as I’m around, nothing would happen to them.

“Wow, he looks so different from how I remembered him,” Monae turned around and said to me and I nodded my head.

Monae and I sat on the opposite side of him and I must admit that the shit felt awkward as fuck. Something about his whole demeanor was off to me though. I noticed that he was a lot thinner than the last time I saw him at my press conference a couple of months back. Not to mention, when I was able to get a closer look at him, the area around his mouth and eyelids had purple blotches on his skin. Was this man sick or some shit?

“First off, I would like to thank the two of you for coming down here to meet with me. I chose this restaurant because it’s one of my favorites,” he said and chuckled.

Monae and I just looked at him with blank expressions on our faces. It was kind of shocking to me because believe it or not, this was one of my favorite restaurants too.
