“Damn, so you just gon’ walk past like you don’t see a nigga?” he asked, getting out of the car and jogging up so that he could catch up to me.

I hate to admit it, but he looked so fuckin fine in his gray Nike joggers and his white tank top, with a pair of fresh white, low top Air Force Ones on his feet. No doubt, his appearance was everything, it’s just that arrogance that I couldn’t put up with.

“I didn’t see you,” I lied, turning around so that I could go inside the house.

I felt some type of way when I walked past and saw him on the phone smiling. I knew I wasn’t his girlfriend or anything, but I was kind of jealous. He walked over to me and stood directly in front of me, his body mounted over my small, short frame.

“First off, let me apologize for the way I came at you that night, I was wrong,” he said, and it shocked the hell out of me. I just knew that he was coming over here to say some bullshit out of his mouth, but boy was I wrong.

“Apology accepted,” I said, looking at him like I could care less, even though I was smiling on the inside.

“So where you coming from? It’s ten at night, you just left your nigga house?” he asked me, and I could have sworn I heard a hint of jealousy laced in his voice.

“Umm no, but since we asking questions, who were you talking to on the phone that had you smiling from ear to ear?” I shot back.

“I thought you said you didn’t see me?” he asked, catching me in my lie. I laughed when I realized that I had been caught.

“So answer my question,” he said seriously.

“I’m coming from my parent’s house,” I told him, truthfully. “Now answer my question,” I said.

“What was your question?” he smiled, showing off his perfect teeth.

“Who were you on the phone with?” I wanted to know.

“Nobody important,” he stated simply.

“Okay,” I said, shrugging my shoulders and turning to walk off.

“Wait, why you walking off?” he asked, jogging and trying to catch up with me.

I already knew that he was on the phone with a bitch. I mean, I wasn’t his girl, so I didn’t see why he felt the need to lie about something as simple as that. When he realized that he wasn’t going to get an answer, he stood right in front of me and made me look at him.

“Come on Imani-”

“How did you even know my name?” I asked, cutting him off because I never even told him.

“Come on girl. My cousin is your cousin’s nigga, he told me,” he said. “Let me get your number,” he pulled out his phone from his back pocket and handed it to me.

After I saved my number, I went to his recently called log and saw that he was on the phone with somebody named Shay. I deleted her number out his phone, blocked it, and handed it back to him. Call it petty, but I didn’t trust a bitch like that around him that would have him smiling so damn hard. I wanted to be the only one that was able to get him to show those deep ass dimples.

“I’ll be calling you, so stick by your phone so you can hear from a nigga,” he said.

“Okay,” I told him, turning to head in the house.

“And tell Dontae to hurry his ass up too. He been in there damn near an hour,” he told me.

I laughed and told him okay. When I walked in the house, Dontae was leaving out of Breesha’s room with a big ass smile on his face. This was a daily routine for their asses. If she wasn’t spending the night with him, he would come over late at night for a quickie and I would be in my room, trying to sleep but couldn’t due to Breesha’s loud ass. Shit was funny at first, but now it was annoying. I was so happy Donate was leaving so I wouldn’t have to hear them in there fuckin tonight.

“Mani, when she wake up, tell her I said don’t forget about tomorrow,” he said, walking over and giving me a hug. Since Breesha and Dontae started dating, he had become like a big brother to me and I loved him for my big cousin. I felt like he kept her happy, and she always had a smile on her face. At the rate they were going though, he was going to fuck around and get her ass pregnant real soon. Breesha with kids? I never thought that I would see the day that would happen, because her ass was so damn mean.

I didn’t know what Dontae was talking about that was supposed to happen tomorrow, but I said okay. I knew that Breesha would tell me in the morning anyways. I walked him to the door and led him out. After he was gone, I put on the alarm and headed to the bathroom to take a quick shower. As soon as I finished, I threw on my headscarf, brushed my teeth, put on my pajamas and was out for the count, or so I thought, until my phone started ringing. I picked up the phone and noticed that it was Rashard calling me.

“Hello,” I answered, laying back down with the phone glued to my ear.

“What’s good, lil one?” he said, and I could hear loud music in the background.

“Rashard don’t call me that! And where are you? It’s so loud,” I said, pulling the phone away from my ear.
