“I’m at my nigga crib. Hold on, let me go

on the porch,” he said, and I could hear some shuffling going on; that’s when his background was quieter.

“You got a nigga out here taking requests from you like I’m your bitch,” he laughed, and so did I.

“What you doing? I hope you in the bed,” he told me.

“Yeah I am, I was actually about to go to sleep until you called. And if I wasn’t in the bed, then what?” I asked him.

“I don’t need my girl out at night if I’m not with you,” he told me.

Laughing, I asked, “And when did we establish this? Where is Shay?” I asked, wanting to know his answer.

“We just established it. And shit I don’t fuckin know! How you know Shay?” he asked me.

“Don’t worry about it,” I let him know.

“Your ass deleted her number out my phone huh?” he asked me, laughing.

“No, why would you think that?” I asked, lying through clenched teeth.

“You wild, Imani. But I was just checking on you to make sure you was good. I’m going to let you go to sleep now, and I’ll call you in the morning, okay?” he asked me.

“Okay, that’s fine. Goodnight,” I said, smiling.

“Goodnight, lil one,” he said, and ended the phone call.

Imani

I woke up the next morning to the smell of breakfast. I hurried out of the bed and walked inside the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face. When I got in the kitchen, Breesha was sitting down at the table about to eat. It was only eight in the morning, but it felt much earlier. I normally slept till about 9:30 on the weekends, but the smell of breakfast being cooked woke me up out of my sleep. Crazy, because Breesha’s ass never cooked. She would cook every blue moon, so her ass must have got dicked down real proper last night to the point that she would get up and make us breakfast.

“Good morning cousin, I put your food in the microwave,” she said.

“Good morning and thank you,” I said, taking the food out the microwave. Breesha had cooked French toast, ham, cheese eggs, and grits–all of my breakfast favorites. I sat down at the table with her once I had filled my cup with orange juice.

“Oh, when Dontae left last night, he told me to tell you don’t forget about today,” I told her in the middle of eating. She gave me a blank stare and continued to eat her food.

“What’s supposed to happen today?” I wanted to know.

“I’m supposed to be meeting his daughter,” she said, dryly.

“Eww bitch, why you got to say it like that, you don’t want to meet her or something?”

“I do, I just don’t know if I’m ready for all of that. I don’t know how I’m going to feel about being around the child of another female who fucked my man. Like what if she don’t like me or what if she don’t want another female to be around her daddy? I don’t want it to feel like I’m trying to take her mother’s place or anything like that,” she said, and I could genuinely see that Breesha was scared shitless to meet this little girl. I mean, she was only a child, what could be so bad with that?

“Breesha, that man is with you. He not worried about his baby mama. Clearly he feeling you if he thought it was okay to bring you around his daughter,” I told her, and she nodded her head. I could see that she was still a bit skeptical about the situation. I decided not to press the issue, and I ate my breakfast and headed back upstairs so that I could find me something to wear. I had five missed calls from Rashard and one missed call from Nae. I also noticed that Rashard had texted me too.

Rashard: Damn, you can’t answer the phone for a nigga. I’m just calling to say good morning.

I smiled after reading the text message. I literally felt like my damn face was about to break from smiling so damn hard. He kept true to his word and called me like he said he would.

Chapter 9: Breesha

I was pulling up to Sawgrass mall about to meet with Dontae and his daughter, Bria. For some odd reason, I was kind of nervous, because I felt like Bria wouldn’t like me. I mean I wasn’t her mom, so she probably wouldn’t want me nowhere around her or her daddy. I was preparing myself for whatever, though. I honestly felt that she would feel as if I was trying to come in and take over her mother’s place, and honestly I wasn’t. I was dating her dad and he felt as if it was imperative for us to meet, in which I agreed but I didn’t think that it would be so soon. I mean I was great with kids so I didn’t think that Bria would have a reason not to like me. I babysat Janiya all the time, and I was great with her.

Dontae was already there because he had called me on my way over, letting me know to meet him in front of Nordstrom. I parked my car and spotted the two of them standing outside waiting for me. His daughter was beautiful, standing there in her tan and red Burberry dress. She had her pretty long hair in braids, with brown beads at the end. She was so pretty, she made me want to have a baby of my own, something that I never thought that I would have said in a million years. From the looks of things, the only thing that Bria had inherited from Dontae was his light skin and his hazel eyes. She was probably the splitting image of her mom because she didn’t really resemble Dontae that much.

After adding more lip gloss to my lips and locking my door, I was out the car and headed in their direction. As soon as I reached them, Bria looked at me and smiled. I gave her a warm smile as well.
