The lift pings, announcing we’ve reached our destination. He straightens and takes few labored breaths to calm himself, but before I can leave, he catches me around the waist and rests his forehead on my shoulder, obviously deliberating something.

“Mr. Cade,” I mutter, not knowing what I’m asking anymore. Feeling so lost and confused, I don’t even recall how I got into the underground parking.

“Please, call me Logan.” His soft lips against my exposed neck elicit shivers down my spine, and my heart palpitates until my body sways from lack of oxygen. Every inch of me is tingling with awareness. My breasts feel heavy and desire shoots through to my core. I arch my back, my lips parting in astonishing pleasure.

A deep, raspy voice whispers, “Cassandra?” As if asking me permission—for what, I don’t know yet.

He slowly turns me around to face him again, resting his forehead against mine. One of his hands gently cups my neck, stroking my jaw, and the othe

r presses me against him.

“Let’s go to our hotel where we’ll be more comfortable,” he suggests. The husky voice unleashes another wave of shivers down my spine.

“No,” I state, shaking my head. “That is not going to happen.” I step back as the reality of what is happening sets in. “Find someone else to warm your bed.” My eyes fill up with tears that I refuse to shed, annoyed he got me under his influence so easily. Idiot!

He seems to be struggling for control, almost in disbelief that I would deny him. He is unable to speak for a moment until, eventually, anger filters through his features as he turns his impossible eyes on me.

“What game are you playing? I won’t be following you like a puppy and begging for your attention, darling, I have no need for that,” Logan proudly informs me.

The lust-induced haze vanishes, and I can think clearly about this situation I’ve got myself into. “Good to know,” I say agreeably, and march towards the exit.

Dammit, I forgot my bag. I turn to find Logan standing few meters from me, holding the bag in his hands, his lips tugging at the corners. Don’t react! I reprimand myself as I quickly grab it and turn to leave. My high heels echo through the underground parking lot, like shots meant to kill my stupidity.

I have a lot of things to work through. The anger and disappointment are perfect fuel to my furious walk. What an ass. Who does he think he is!

In truth, I am angry only with my inability to push him away. I am so mortified and embarrassed by my unusual behavior that I don’t notice the car following me.

“Cassandra, wait, let’s talk,” he requests, but I have no desire to speak with him or be in his demeaning company ever again.

I pick up speed, ignoring him altogether. My eyes water at the confusion and I feel my heart beating like a drum, with a desire to be alive again. I hear soft echoes as he opens and closes his car door, then footsteps trying to catch up with me. I make a sudden turn to face him, ready to unleash my temper on him. Just give me a reason to do so, buddy!

He stops too, and his arms raise, as if to placate me. “Look, I realize that you are upset. I just want to give you a ride back to your hotel. I can’t leave you in the dark parking lot to fend for yourself.”

“Let’s be clear, Mr. Cade, I don’t want to sleep with you. No matter what happened here to make you believe that I might, know that I wouldn’t. So, if this is some plot to have some fun tumble under the sheets, it won’t work.”

My blood spikes in apprehension. If Logan wants to hurt me, he has the perfect opportunity now. We are alone, with not a soul in sight. The car’s ready to go, and no one will come to my rescue. My brain’s finally warning me that I should be careful with this stranger I just met, regardless of his title.

Logan attempts to reassure me, but I flinch when he moves. He steps back, giving me some space after seeing my sudden distress.

“Listen, I’m no stalker, all right? I swear I won’t hurt you. I’m just worried that you’re alone here. So, if you want, I can walk you back to the office, so you can call a cab. Or I can simply take you to the hotel myself.” I roll my eyes because it really isn’t that late yet.

“What happened to the meeting? Why are you not in there?” I need to know why he followed me when he should be in the conference room.

“Well, since I thought we needed some time to rehash our differences, I dismissed it until Monday morning.” He looks at me and shrugs, mischief hidden in those eyes.

I know precisely what he means to be rehashing with me. Seriously, this man needs an ass-kicking. But, he is kind of my boss, so that would put me in an awkward position. He’s probably going to fire me because of how I humiliated him in the meeting. Gosh, he is a pain in my ass!

“You’re joking, right?” I ask in disbelief, shaking my head, my nerves churning at his strange behavior.

“No,” he answers, giving no further explanation, making me more suspicious of him. What I’m supposed to do with you? I have no freaking idea.

Standing few meters away, he politely smiles, letting me decide whatever I want to do. I walk up to him, never taking my eyes from the possible threat that might be present. No need to be so trusting with people who haven’t earned it yet.

Logan makes no move to touch me. As we near his car, he opens the door for me and mockingly asks, “Are you, Ms. Knight, afraid of a big bad wolf?”

The challenge is apparent, and my blood responds to it instantly.

“No, I am not,” I say with false bravado as I climb into his shiny new car. The last thing I see is his pleased smile before he rounds the car to get into the driver’s seat.
