Might still be in her apartment.

Amy nearly hyperventilated at the thought.

“Hello,” she called out, her voice shaking. Frantically opening the dresser, she grabbed the nearest T-shirt and a pair of yoga pants and pulled them on. “Hello! Anyone there?”

Silence was her only response.

Picking up the phone, Amy opened the bedroom door and crept out into her tiny living room, trying to convince herself not to panic. Maybe it was all a dream, and she’d just had too much to drink with Jay again. Maybe she fell into bed naked and simply didn’t remember it. Weird things happened when Jay-style partying was involved.

Jay! Her pulse spiked again as she remembered that he had been there with her—and that when she saw him last, he’d been gearing up for a close encounter with not one, but two Krinar. What happened to him? Where was he now?

To her tremendous relief, the living room was empty—as were the kitchen and the bathroom. Her apartment was tiny, just a converted studio, so there weren’t many places a K could hide. She was alone and safe for now.

Still shaking from the surge of adrenaline, she sat down at the kitchen table and dialed Jay’s number. He didn’t pick up right away, and just when Amy thought she would go out of her mind with panic, she heard his sleep-roughened voice answer, “Hello?”

“Jay!” She almost broke into tears. “Jay, are you okay?”

“What? Oh . . . Amy?” He sounded disoriented. “What—what’s going on?”

“Jay, what happened last night?”

“Last night?” She could practically hear the wheels starting to turn in his sleep-fogged brain. “Last night . . . oh shit, baby girl, we went to the club! The fucking x-club! Are you okay? You disappeared with that K and then—”

“What happened to you?” Amy interrupted, not wanting to talk about her experience quite yet. “Did you sleep with those two Ks?”

Jay laughed with delight. “Sleep with them? Baby girl, we did everything but sleep, and it was the most intense shit I’ve ever experienced—like Ecstasy combined with heroin and amplified tenfold. I don’t even know how I ended up home. We must’ve been partying all night ’cause I don’t remember a thing right now.”

“Right, uh-huh.” Amy rubbed the bridge of her nose, the adrenaline beginning to drain out of her. It sounded like Jay had gone through the same experience as Amy. Whatever happened to them last night was far outside the realm of normal sex, corroborating all those stories she’d read online.

She was certain now that the night had been real—which left the mystery of how she’d ended up back home after passing out at the club.

Or at least she assumed she passed out at the club, as her last memories were of non-stop sex and impossibly intense pleasure.

As Jay continued to talk, telling her all about how the K Barbie went down on him while she was being fucked by the male Krinar, Amy tried to work through the possibilities. The only thing that made any sense was that Vair brought her home . . . which meant he knew who she was and where she lived.

He must’ve found her driver’s license in her purse, she decided after a moment of uneasy contemplation. If he knew more than that about her—if he knew she was a journalist—she doubted he would’ve let her go so easily.

She got lucky, and so did Jay.

When he finished describing his sexcapade, she told him about what happened to her, leaving out the forceful nature of Vair’s seduction and her own helpless reaction to it. The fact that she ended up having sex against her better judgment—and that it was the hottest sex of her life—was not something Amy wanted to analyze too closely.

“Wow, you go girl,” Jay said admiringly when she was done telling him the night’s events in broad strokes. “You really let loose this time. I’m proud of you. So what’s next? Are you going to go back to the club?”

“No,” Amy said. One night of out-of-this-world sex was plenty for her. “Next, I write the story.”

It was time for her real career to begin.
