Hearing her cry for him and not being able to talk to her in order to calm her down pissed Murder off more than anything. He gave her a sloppy kiss when she was close enough.

“You scared me,” she told him seriously.

“I would do it again. I would rather be in here than see you in here again,” Murder said. Lawrynn looked at him, confused as hell, so he elaborated. “The bullet I took was meant for you. I jumped in front of you, and I will do it again and again.”

“Hold the fuck up. What you mean they were aiming for her? So, you saw who shot you? Well, who the fuck was it?” Lawrence asked.

He was standing in the doorway with Allen behind him.

“It’s still a little fuzzy, but as soon as my mind is clear, I’ll let you know what the deal is,” Murder said to Lawrence.

He knew Lawrence wasn’t going to leave it alone, but he wasn’t ready to say what he saw just yet.

“Who was shooting at me? I swear I’m tired of everybody coming for me. I try so hard to mind my damn business, and I can’t seem to catch a damn break with anything. What the hell is wrong with me?” Lawrynn asked.

Murder hated seeing her looking defeated like she was right now. He reached for her hand.

“It’s not you. Everybody sees how strong you are, and they don’t like the shit. When I find out who did this, they’re gonna have to answer for this shit. No more sliding going on when it comes to you. People need to know that fucking with you is just like fucking with me. No shorts will be taken, and I don’t care who it is,” Murder told her.

He wanted to tell her what he knew, but now was not the right time.

“I might as well tell you now before Allen’s snitching ass tells you. I told him I want in on whoever did this,” Lawrynn said.

Murder chuckled a little bit until he saw that she wasn’t chuckling with him.

“Hold up, you serious?” he asked. “Nah, man, hell nah. Only one of us needs to be savage in our relationship, man. I got that. Let me get my hands dirty. You just sit back and look sexy as fuck like you’ve been doing. You’re strong as fuck, and you standing strong with everything you’ve been through is all you need to do,” he told her.

“You’re in the hospital, so I need to step in and hold you down like you did me,” Lawrynn insisted.

“Nah, that’s not how it needs to be. You need to kick back and chill. I don’t wanna find out you out here on some set it off type of shit. If I find that out, I’m gonna fuck ya until you can’t walk for a week,” Murder said.

For a minute, Lawrynn contemplated going out and doing something crazy because what he said sounded more like a benefit than a punishment. Murder laughed at her when he saw on her face what she was thinking.

“Stop being nasty,” he said with a smile.

“Aye, I don’t need to hear all that kind of bullshit,” Lawrence said with his face balled up.

“How you feeling?” she asked Murder.

“Like I got shot in the shoulder. I heard you doing all that hooping and hollering too, man. Then you gonna walk in here like you gangsta and shit,” he said and laughed.

“Shut up.”

“Let me holler at ya dad and Allen for a minute. Call my uncle to let him know I’m good. I know for sure that he ain’t out there. He avoids all hospitals like the fucking plague. I only seen him come to a hospital two times in my life. Since my grandma died when I was a little boy, he hasn’t stepped foot in one of these motherfuckers. His punk ass is good until I’m the one hurt,” he said.

“I know when you’re trying to get rid of me. I’ll let you talk to your people. I have to make some phone calls anyway,” she said and gave Murder a kiss before going to do what he asked.

“What’s up, man? I’m happy as hell you’re up and shit. Ya girl was ready to wild out for real,” Allen said.

“You see I had to shut that shit down with a quickness. I need you to watch her people, man. Seeing how her family moves just makes a nigga like me happy as hell that my family is small as fuck,” he said, shaking his head.

“What are you not telling us?” Allen asked, knowing that Murder was up to something for sure.

“I’ll let you in when I’m sure that who I saw was who I saw. I hope I was just seeing wrong because if it’s who I think it is, Lawrynn’s gonna lose it,” Murder said.

“Damn, maybe we should just kill all they asses and be out,” Allen suggested.

Outside the room, Lawrynn racked her brain to figure out who was the person that Murder was talking about. She tried to force the memory of what happened back into her mind. Although she couldn’t figure out exactly who Murder was talking about, she damn sure was gonna find out or die trying.
