I’m not going anywhere,” Trahern stated.
Gregor reckoned it was partly to do with the human researcher at his side.
Bram said, “Right then, that’s one thing sorted. The next has to do with Emily and Alice, which is why they’re here. The DDA has agreed that they both can stay on a trial basis provided both humans share information with the DDA.” Bram moved his gaze to Sid. “I haven’t given them my answer yet. I need to know if it’s okay for Emily to continue working in the laboratory and share her findings with the DDA.”
Gregor wondered why Bram would discuss the two humans’ futures in front of them.
His dragon chimed in. It’s a show of dominance and power. Bram is in charge. The humans need to understand that.
I suppose. Luckily Cassidy doesn’t back down just to appease someone’s feelings.
Which is why we love her.
Gregor resisted a snort just as Cassidy answered, “The new DDA Director hasn’t given me any reason to distrust her yet. However, sharing everything is risky. Emily will have to earn our trust day by day, and there are a few things I don’t want the DDA to know about just yet.” She looked to Emily. “As you can imagine, some secrets could cost a lot of dragon-shifter lives.”
Trahern frowned, but Emily spoke first. “I completely understand. I trust Trahern, but Stonefire still has to earn my trust as well.”
Well, it seemed Emily Davies had a backbone. She would probably do well on Stonefire, which could be a problem if other males pursued her while Trahern still fancied the female.
His dragon huffed. Not our problem.
Bram’s voice prevented Gregor from replying. “Good. Alice already knows what she must do to stay as well, with regards to filing her observations of the clan. That just leaves one last thing to discuss.” Bram looked to Gregor and then to Cassidy. “You two need to decide your future.”

Sid knew the topic would come up eventually, but she still couldn’t help but frown. “Gregor’s and my future is our business.”
Bram replied, “Aye, it may be. However, without a mating ceremony, Gregor’s transfer will be in the hands of the DDA.”
Gregor growled out, “The DDA shouldn’t rush things.”
Evie jumped in. “I think you two need to discuss this matter alone. I’m sure Bram can give you a day to figure it out.”
Bram sighed. “She’s right. I can give you a day, but no longer.”
Gregor took Sid’s hand. “Are we done here?”
“Aye, we’re done here,” Bram said. “But I do need to talk with you two again tomorrow.”
Sid nodded. “Understood.”
“Then if you’ll excuse us,” Gregor murmured as he tugged Sid out of the room.
As they made their way to the door, Sid’s dragon spoke up. You should just mate him. He is our true mate.
I want that more than anything. But I’m not about to make that decision in front of a room full of people.
Good idea. Gregor should work for it.
Sid snorted. Since they were outside, Gregor raised his brows and asked, “What?”
“All I’ll say is that you should be glad I’m in charge and not my dragon.” Gregor guided them away from both the surgery and their cottage. “Where are we going?”
He grinned. “It’s a surprise.”
“I never know if I should be happy or worried when it comes to your surprises.”
