His eyebrows rose. “What do you mean?”

“It looks pretty clean in here. Maggie must have come and straightened up.”

“I did that while you were writing this morning. Why do you

think I was gone so long?”

Her shoulders relaxed in relief. “Oh, so Maggie . . .”

“Has no idea about us.” He raked his hand through his hair. “I mean she suspects something on my part, but . . .”

“What does she suspect?”

He tucked his hands in his pockets. “I’ve never brought a girl home before. I’ve never taken anyone to the ruins and most certainly never brought anyone here. In Maggie’s eyes, that’s saying something.” He took a step toward her.

Nicole’s heart thumped hard in her chest at his approach. “What about your eyes?”

“My eyes say you’re the most special woman I’ve ever met, and I’d be a fool to let you escape.” He stopped directly in front of her, his hands taking hers and entwining their fingers. “I think I’m in serious danger of falling in love with you.”

“After two days?” she asked skeptically.

“Nine days. I’ve been crazy about you since the first moment we met.”

“That was a long time ago,” she said sarcastically.

He raised her hand to his mouth. “It seems that way.” He studied her face as he kissed each fingertip. “What about you?”

She bit her lip, unsure how to reply. “I think I’m . . . going to get that shower. Where is it?”

He took a step back, dropping her hands. “Straight down the hall is a bedroom with an en suite bath. You can’t miss it.”

“Thank you.” She moved toward the hallway but paused at the threshold, peeking over her shoulder at him. “I picked up sand in a lot of hard to reach places. Think you could help me scrub it off?” she asked, teasing him with a come-hither look.

His eyes widened in arousal, their blue going almost black. “You, Nicole DeLancey, are going to be a handful.”

She considered the hands in question. “Yours look big enough to handle the job.” She yanked her T-shirt up and off, dropping it to the floor. Taking a backward step down the hall, she kicked her shoes off as she went. She unbuttoned her jeans, whisked the zipper down, and wiggled her hips to get them to drop.

Reece followed, stopping here and there to retrieve her articles of clothing. “I am going to make you sorry for this, Nicole,” he warned.

Her voice grew husky. “I’m looking forward to it, Colin.”

He bolted to her side, pushing her up against the wall. “Say my name again.”

“Colin.”

He slid his chest up and down her torso. “I want to hear you moan it in my ear as I take you. You’re going to scream it when I make you cum.”

She shivered in arousal. “And how should I say it when I want you in my mouth?” She reached between their bodies, stroking him.

He closed his eyes, backing away. “Go turn on the shower, Nicole. I’ll join you shortly.”

“Where are you going?” He couldn’t be calling a halt to their play, could he?

“The teakettle is about to explode, and so am I.” He turned her in the direction of the bathroom, swatting her backside. “Now go.”

Nicole stood under the spray, letting the hot water wash away all the dirt and grit she’d accumulated in the last several hours. She loved hanging at the beach, whether here or at home in the States. She loved feeling the grit of the wet sand sink between her toes as she meandered, combing the beach for shells to add to her collection. Her grandmother had started her fascination, and sitting on her desk back in London was the first shell she ever found. She wished she had grabbed it when she was packing her things for this excursion.
