That morning, sex was different. It wasn’t wild and animalistic. It was sweet and sensual. Slow and passionate. They each took time to feel the explosions rippling through them. Sawyer pushed deep inside Lily at the same time Jack thrust upward, pausing at the top of his movement.

She clenched them both, praying no one would move. That she could live in this fullness, with both of them so deep inside her. But she couldn’t hold the reservoir back. It came out of nowhere as the shockwaves broke free.

“Oh God,” she screamed. She came harder than she ever had.

“Fuck.” Sawyer let himself go at the same time Jack’s release emptied inside her.

They lowered her to the bed.

“You have never looked so beautiful as you did in that moment.” Jack brushed her bangs to the side.

“Really?”

Sawyer rolled behind her, tucking her to his chest. He kissed her shoulder.

“Are you ok?”

She laughed. “Of course I’m ok. I feel amazing. And the baby feels amazing.”

“He does?”

“Who said it was a he?” she teased.

Jack stroked her chin. “With two dads, I think the odds are good.”

“Are you going to want a paternity test?” she asked. “Does it matter to you?” In her heart, she knew it was their baby. She didn’t care whose DNA it had. But to them it might make a difference.

The loves of her life didn’t have family. They had broken hearts just like she did. This was what family meant now.

Sawyer spoke first. “No. I don’t have to know. Jack?”

He shook his head. “We’re a family. This baby is ours. And the next baby will be ours. It doesn’t matter, Lily.”

Both of their hands moved to her belly and she felt the full love that circled her and her child in this moment.

There was no doubt that they would love this baby with every last breath they had. Just like they loved her.

Epilogue

Lily stared at the screen in the doctor’s office. She saw the images on the screen, but she couldn’t quite believe it. She looked at the doctor again.

“Twins?” she eked.

“Yes,” the doctor answered. “Two healthy heartbeats. You are measuring at twelve weeks.”

Sawyer squeezed her hand and then Jack.

“Two?”

They were as stunned as she was. They all just wanted one healthy baby. But two? Lily realized there was another question to ask the doctor. She didn’t want her men to be upset, but she also knew that it was an answer that could make everything so whole and perfect.

“Dr. Alison, what kind of twins?” she asked. “Are they by any chance fraternal?”

It was as if all the air in the room had been sucked out. Jack looked at her. “We told you it doesn’t matter to us, Lily.”

She shook her head. “I want to know.”

The doctor smiled. “Yes, as a matter of fact they are fraternal.”
