“Yes. Oh God. Yes.”

“Come for us, baby.” Jaris kissed her trembling lips. “One more time.”

His thrusts came faster and harder.

She screamed as another climatic wave rolled through her body.

“Fuuuck.” Jaris came inside her and then he collapsed on top of her.

He rolled to his side, pulling her with him. Chance came up behind her, now in the place Jaris had been in earlier.

“I love you, Kaylyn.” Chance’s words thrilled her.

Jaris touched her cheek. “And I love you, too.”

“I love you both so very much.” She wrapped her right arm around Jaris’s neck and reached back and grabbed Chance’s hand. “I will always love you.”

Chapter Fourteen

Kaylyn yawned and stretched her arms over her head. The morning sun peeked through her blinds, illuminating her bedroom in a soft, warm glow. Jaris was asleep beside her. She could see Sugar on the floor next to his side of the bed. She rolled over, thinking she would find Chance. But he and Annie were gone. Chance wasn’t a person to sleep in.

She swung her legs off the bed and tiptoed out of the bedroom to the bathroom. She could smell coffee, which told her Chance had made a pot. Perfect. Just what I need to get the day started.

She brushed her teeth and put on her robe, which she had left in there last night. She grinned at her image in the mirror. “You’re a bit of a devil yourself, Miss Anderson, but your plan did work. Good for you.”

She headed into the kitchen and found the coffee but no Chance. Where was he? I bet he’s checking with Jason’s deputies about what, if anything, happened last night.

She poured herself a cup of black coffee and sat down at her kitchen table. She reached for the morning paper. Chance must’ve left it for me.

Most of the articles were about Dragon Week. The review of Wolfe Mayhem’s performance lifted her spirits.

“Wolfe Mayhem’s songs knocked the socks off of the attendees of Dragon Week. They never disappoint their fans. The vocals of Miss Kaylyn Anderson, the band’s lead singer, reach into your very soul, stirring all your emotions. Destiny’s local band has put out their second single, which is being played at radio stations all around Colorado and surrounding states. We are so privileged to have these talented musicians from our town.”

There was a mention about her missing dogs in another section that made her eyes well up. She was afraid the worst might’ve happened. Still no sign of them.

The article went on to talk about Mr. Bayless offering his four dogs to her. Keeping anything under wraps in Destiny was impossible. She took a deep breath. Even if she had to follow Doc’s rules about not training dogs, she still wanted Chance and Jaris to work with Bayless. Until her guys gave the green light, she wouldn’t hand Bayless’s dogs over to her clients.

On the inner page was a quick mention about Potter’s outburst last night at the performance. She closed the paper, wondering if the man was truly sorry for shooting her.

After she’d finished her first cup and started on her second, Chance walked back into her house with Annie.

“Where have you been at this hour, Mr. Reynolds?”

“Talking with Dylan. How did you sleep, Miss Anderson?”

His tone seemed odd to her. Had Dylan told Chance something that had troubled him? “I slept great. How about you?”

“Fine. I need to get to the Boys Ranch. Lyle could use some help. Jaris put in his time. Now, it’s my turn. It’s not fair to the Stones for us to shirk our duties.”

“Let’s have a cup of coffee first. Then I’ll get ready and take you.”

“No. Dylan has agreed to drive me, sweetheart. You have another performance you need to rest up for. I’ll be there with Jaris just like yesterday. Onstage. By your side.”

“Will you at least have a cup of coffee with me?”

“No. Dylan is waiting. I have to go.” He moved close to her and kissed her on the forehead. “Bye, Kaylyn.”

Before she could say a word, he walked out of her house. Something is definitely off with him.
