“Yeah.”

The Mayor weighed his options and chose the one closest to his heart. “Okay, we’ll finish this later,” he said, looking distractedly over at the food. Then he motored out of there and over to the buffet. With Patrick in tow.

“You dodged a bullet there,” said Cap. Meaning he was about to loose a beating on Monty right there at the party .

“Really? You think so?”

“Oh I know so.”

“And just who do you think you’re calling fat?” demanded Mrs Cap.

“Hey if the fat shoe fits…”

Then the bickering really began as the four of them started to squabble in the most juvenile, name calling, finger pointing kind of way. The likes of which isn’t normally seen outside the fourth grade. They glowered and glared and spat insults at each other for what was an awkwardly, even comically, long time. Till eventually Mrs Monty grabbed Monty’s arm and defiantly pulled him away.

Romeo had been running the show at the stand all evening and doing a pretty bang up job of it. The mini cheesesteaks had been coming out consistently spot on and people were lining up to gets firsts, seconds and even thirds. There was something to be said for forgetting about your troubles and throwing yourself completely into your work. It’s therapeutic. Until someone comes along and reminds you about all the things you were trying to forget.

“You!” sneered Nikki as she cut the line. “This is all your fault.”

“Huh?”

“This is all your fault,” she said again, pointing her finger.

“First off I don’t know what you’re talking about and two, how could it be my fault?”

“If you hadn’t screwed things up with Ant she wouldn’t be hanging out with Patrick.”

“Hi Nikki.”

It was Benny.

Nikki did a quick double take, saw Benny, and shrugged him off. “What are we gonna do about this?”

“Do about what?”

“About Ant and Patrick. ”

‘What do you want me to do?”

“Fix it!”

“How?”

“Go talk to her.”

“Yeah. I tried that.”

“Try again.”

“Why?”

“Because I said so.”

“Wrong answer.”

“Are you going to do something to fix this or not?”

“Not.”
