“And what’s with the hat?”

On Perry’s head sat an ornate top hat, with a thick brim and a decorative band of buckles and gears. It was so odd, so out of place.

“We need to talk,” Perry said, ignoring Marco and stepping up to Romeo.

Marco was growing impatient. “We going or what?”

“You go on. I’ll catch up.”

“You sure?”

“Yeah.”

“Ok. See you up there.”

Marco and Benny walked on, leaving Romeo alone with Perry.

“What’s up?”

“You know what’s up,” said Perry, raising his voice. “You stole my girlfriend.”

“No I didn’t.”

“Yeah, you did!”

Always one to defuse a situation rather than escalate it, Romeo took a beat and a breath, then continued calmly.

“We’ve been over this.”

“Well I want to go over it again.”

“Look, for the last time, she came on to me. She never said she had a boyfriend and frankly it was over before it even began. So how about we just move on?”

“I don’t want to move on.”

“Well, what do you want then?”

Perry took a step closer and got all up in Romeo’s face. Then he spoke, slowly and deliberately. Like he was a man to be reckoned with. Which, to be honest, he wasn’t.

“I want satisfaction.”

Romeo pushed him back. Not hard. Just enough to give them a little distance and maybe give him something to think about.

“Okay nutball, what do you want to do about this?”

“A duel.”

“A what?”

“A duel. I challenge you to a duel.”

“You know it’s not 1810, right?”

“A duel, down by the lake. At dawn.”

“A duel?”

“That’s right, a duel. Down by the lake, at dawn. Unless you’re afraid.”
