“At dawn?”

“That’s right, dawn, first light.”

“Couldn’t we make it more like noon-ish?” Romeo said, looking around. “Feels like it’s gonna be a late night.”

“No, dawn,” insisted Perry. Then he leaned in real close. “Be there or be… oblong.”

Perry gave Romeo the big eye for another second, just for emphasis, and then stomped off. The billowy, ruffled collar at the top of his poofy shirt whipping back in the warm summer breeze.

Romeo watched Perry disappear into the crowd. “Man, he must be sweatin’ underneath that getup.”

Marco and Benny were up in line waiting to order some food. When it was his turn, Marco placed both hands on the stainless steel counter, looked up and smiled smugly.

“You?! What are you doing here?”

“What? I’m not invited to the party?”

“No. You’re not,” Nikki said, standing stiff, hands on hips.

“Is that any way to talk to your ex-boyfriend?”

“Boyfriend?! We went out once, two years ago, and you never called me again.”

“Yeah, well, once is all it took.”

“What do you want?”

Marco ignored her question and nodded at Ant suggestively. “How you doing?”

Nikki wasn’t having it. “You gonna order something or what?”

“Sure, sure, let’s see… I’ll have a sneezesteak. With frumunda cheese.”

“A cheesesteak?”

“No, no, a sneezesteak.”

“What’s going on here?” demanded Tyler, busting in. “This guy giving you a hard time? You want me to kick his ass?”

“Take it easy tough guy.”

“Hey. I’m not talking to you.”

“It’s fine,” said Nikki. “Everything’s fine.”

“See? Everything’s fine,” quipped Marco.

“Just ignore him. Go back to work. You’re fries are burning.” Nikki finished by firmly pushing Tyler back toward the fryer.

“I got my eyes on you,” Tyler said over his shoulder, gesturing with his first two fingers from his eyes to Marco’s and back again.

“That guy’s gotta lay off the caffeine.”

“You need to leave.”

“Come on. We just got here.”

“Umm…What’s with your friend?”
