He nodded slowly, almost approvingly. Then asked, “So, about Ant, what really happened there?”

Nikki shrugged. “I dunno. She split. Didn’t tell anyone where she was going. ”

“Just like that?”

“Yep, just like that. Does it matter?”

“Maybe.”

She took his face in her hands and said, “She split. She doesn’t want to go out with you.” Then she pulled him closer and kissed him. “But I do.”

“Where do you want to go?”

“Nikki smiled coyly. “How about Banger’s Bay?”

“What’s Banger’s Bay?”

“It’s a little, soft patch of grass down by the water.” She then popped another button open on her already skin tight shirt. “Do you want to go there with me?”

Patrick started the car. “Banger’s Bay it is.”

Romeo had lit a couple of candles and placed them on the coffee table. They now bathed the room in a warm, intimate light. The flames dancing in front of them as they sat together.

Ant touched Romeo’s bare foot playfully with her own as she enjoyed another sip of wine. They had moved to the couch and had been comfortably talking about anything and everything for a while now. Laughing and confiding with each other in a way that neither of them had ever really experienced before. It was all just so easy.

“Then what?” he asked.

“Then he got mad. He started yelling at me about how much he’d already spent on college and…” She stopped and fidgeted with her empty glass.

“What are you gonna do?”

“I don’t know,” she sighed.

“That’s a tough one.”

“Got any advice?”

“Do what makes you happy,” he said.

“Is that what you do?”

He chuckled. “I try.”

“Does that work? ”

“Sometimes.”

Then Romeo leaned forward, grabbed the bottle and poured them each a touch more. She thanked him with a smile.

“So, what makes you happy?” she asked.

“Being here with you.”

“You sure you’re a painter and not a writer?”

“Yeah. I’m sure.”
