Blaez took one step backward and then another. He butted up against a wall of blue and the squishy surface embraced him, closing around him until he was trapped.

“You will watch,” a male voice hissed. “This is all because you helped Eva betray me!”

Eva crawled across the lawn, snapping her teeth together as if she wanted to remind him of the one talent she hadn’t possessed when he and Marcus had taken her to—

“Oh God,” he muttered, dropping his head and sick all over. “What have we done?” He’d gone to bed with one of these things?

Eva kept inching closer. The gnashing sound resonated in his ears.

She was only a foot away when the roar of the MC’s bikes stalled her. Immediately, she jumped upright and dragged her hand up and down the slender curves of her body.

“This should be interesting,” Eva said, puckering her lips and blowing him a kiss.

“Tell me about it.” Marcus walked across the lawn, making a beeline for Eva.

“Look out, Marcus!” Blaez attempted to fight off the restraint of the extortionist, pulling his body away from the translucent wall. It was as if his arms were cuffed but the rest of his body could move freely without constraints. Still, when he thrust forward and tried to escape, it was no use. His body snapped back against the squishy surface and wrapped around him like a second skin.

Several of the guys approached, with Randon on one side of the lawn. On the other side of the yard, a few more marched toward Eva, following behind Kurt.

Blaez jerked to the left and right. Where the hell was Suzette? What had they done with her?

Marcus shot him a quick glance and mouthed, “We got this.”

Eva struck a pose and eyed the bikers coming for her. “All of this just for me?”

“All of this just for you,” Marcus assured her, reaching behind his back as the others did the same. Round after round of ammunition was pumped into the extortionist who had claimed the body of one beautiful girl, a young woman who had long since died when the extortionist had appa

rently claimed her body and stolen her soul.

As “Eva” succumbed to her death, a shattering cry resounded. “You will pay! All of you will pay!”

Unexpectedly freed, Blaez rotated to his left and whirled around to his right. The wind picked up several notches and the leaves rustled. Branches snapped and popped.

Blaez rushed Kurt. “Where is she?”

“Safe,” Kurt assured him. “She and Pageant are safe.”

An alarming whistle rang out along with the faint sound of chimes, only it wasn’t a musical presentation they were hearing. The wind had developed a new sound of its own as the yard appeared dark and dreary.

“She’s striking!” Randon screamed, diving for Eva’s body.

The MC scattered. Some of them shifted for better mobility. A couple of the prospects were confined by a translucent box and Randon winced as if he already suspected they would soon succumb to their deaths.

“We’ve gotta do something,” Kurt said, pushing by Blaez.

“Come on!” Randon said, dragging Eva’s body to the porch as the wolves and bikers taunted the invisible stranger.

“You’re a coward!” Randon screamed, obviously prepared to provoke a killer. “You’re too scared to show your face!”

“And you’re too weak to fight me as I am!” The extortionist’s wicked voice rose above a thunderous resonating beat.

“I’m not afraid of you,” Blaez said, stepping forward and hoping like hell Randon had his back.

“You should be!” The extortionist’s voice reverberated with stark evil. “All of you should fear what you can’t see. Moreover, you should fear what you’ll never be able to stop, and that’s all the many extensions of me!”

At that point, chaos erupted. Trees tumbled down. Lights flickered. The swimming pool drained. It was as if the whole place was corrupted by one being, one misunderstood entity.

A prospect with something to prove stood in the center of the yard. He looked around him as if he were disoriented and confused. “Come get me!” He spread his arms wide.
