“He’s too far away,” Randon bit out, positioning Eva’s limp form in front of them.

“Get back, Leon!” Kurt screamed.

“I can take him,” he said in a barely audible voice.

“Sure you can, doll,” a woman’s sultry tone rose above nature’s discord. A sudden boom fell upon the earth like a dozen boulders crashed together.

Leon’s body went limp. He fell to the ground face forward as if he’d been shot in the back. He’d succumbed to the extortionist’s wrath.

“No!” Bikers screamed out as the youngest in the pack wilted away right before their eyes. The wolves, confined by the transparent wall, barked and whimpered as Leon went into violent spasms.

Seconds later, a calm washed across the lawn. Leon slowly rose to all fours and snarled at them as if he didn’t even know them. Then, he vanished into thin air.

There was nothing any of them could do to save him. They’d lost one of their own.

They’d arrived in Satisfying to protect the innocent but hadn’t been prepared to sacrifice one of their brothers.

The extortionists had won. They’d taken one from the pack. And they would pay just as soon as someone figured out how to exert revenge on an invisible enemy.

Chapter Eleven

A week came and went without an eventful happening. Randon, Pageant, Blaine, and Bart had returned to Pleasant the day before and Kurt awoke with a start early that morning.

The delicious smell of bacon, hot syrup, and coffee lured him to the kitchen where he found Marcus and Blaez gaping at their mate like she was the only woman on the face of the planet.

In truth, she was the only woman who mattered to any of them. And they still hadn’t claimed her, taken her as their mate.

“Good morning,” Kurt said, slipping a kiss on her cheek.

“Good morning to you too,” Suzette said, biting her bottom lip and giving him a lustful stare.

“Somebody woke up feeling frisky this morning,” Kurt said, helping himself to a cup of coffee.

“Might be our lucky day,” Marcus said, snapping a piece of bacon in half and stuffing it in his mouth.

“It is your lucky day,” Suzette said, kissing Blaez on top of his head in passing. “Enjoy your breakfast, boys. Then come find me.”

She slipped her arms out of her short silk robe and peered over her shoulder. “I’ll be upstairs in my room.”

“We’re supposed to eat now?” Kurt asked, taking a sip of his coffee and staring at those shapely hips and pretty ass.

“Don’t come upstairs until you have a full belly, boys.”

“We’re anything but boys, sweetheart,” Blaez said, turning off the stove in passing.

“For sure,” Marcus agreed, falling in right behind him.

She turned around with her palms facing outward. “Oh no you don’t. I worked hard at preparing your breakfast. I want to take a shower and when I’m done, I’ll wait for you.”

“Do you know how hard it is to concentrate on breakfast when the roundtable is full of boners?”

“Not my problem,” she said saucily.

“Oh it’s your problem all right.” Breakfast or no breakfast, Kurt wasn’t about to postpone the loving that had been on hold for far too long.

“Seriously, fellas. I worked hard all morning.”

“And your work is just beginning,” Marcus said, chasing her out of the kitchen.
