I take hold of his body and pull him against me. “You know you do. No doubt about it.”

Jonah brings his face close. “I had a small taste of the dream last weekend. You gave me that taste. And in our short time together, you showed me what my life can be like. I’m tired of just dreaming of it. I don’t want to dream anymore. I want the dream. I want to be here with you, no matter the cost. I’m diving into that deep end with you.”

There he goes, throwing my own words back at me. And how can I possibly refuse now? “I sure hope you’re ready to swim, Jonah.”

“As long as I’ve got you.”

I oblige our persistent onlookers by bringing my lips to his at last. The world explodes into applause and cheering all around us that I can barely hear. All of my worries are so far away now, the guy I want is right here with me, and I’m diving in deeply with this one—so deep, I don’t care if I never swim ashore again.

“Hey! Lovebirds!” shouts Malik from the counter. We pull apart and turn. “Not to interrupt your little moment over there, but we’ve got a line of hungry customers!”

I wince at Jonah. “Sorry. I’ve gotta—”

But apparently Malik isn’t done. “And bring your guy with you! Let’s show him what really makes a five-star funnel cake!”

Jonah eyes me. “He doesn’t have to tell me twice.”

I take his hand, smirking. “I bet you just came back for the funnel cakes.”

“Kent, Kent, Kent.” He puts another kiss on me. “You know me too well.”

Together, we join my boss behind the counter. And as I get to work whipping up the best damned funnel cakes in town, the best damned guy I’ve ever met stands by my side. I know he’s smiling right now because he thinks he’s living his dream at last.

But the truth is, I think we’re just getting started.

The end.
