It reminds me so much of Joe that I tear up. Because I know, without a doubt, that this is what he would’ve wanted for all of us.

When I look in Carter’s eyes, I know he’s thinking the same thing. That his uncle got what he wanted for every nephew and more. He gave them family.

“It’s beautiful, Maggie,” Sutton says, wiping her eyes. “And don’t you dare make fun of a pregnant woman for crying.”

Maggie pulls us both into a hug. “Wouldn’t dream of it.”

I lean on my friends and my husband, staring up at the Reindeer Falls Christmas tree.

“Merry Christmas,” I say, looking up at Carter. “The first of forever.”

“May they all be full of red bathing suits.” Carter whispers to me.

I grin. “Always. There’s no other way. Which is why I got you one, too. Now the question is, will you wear it?”

Carter laughs. “For you, Lex, I thought it was clear. You can have whatever you want. It’s always been yes.”

I smile at him, remembering his proposal last Christmas Eve. “Indefinitely?”

“Indefinitely.”
