“I’m going to the bathroom to clean up,” I said, swinging my legs over the side of the bed.

“I’ll come with,” he said, getting off the other side. “When’s your roommate get home?”

“Late tonight. After midnight. If you need to go, I’ll understand.”

“That’s not me,” he said then patted my ass in the hallway.

I smiled as we reached the bathroom.

“Good to know. My bed is small.”

“All the better to sleep snuggled up against you.”

“Wow,” I said with phony surprise.

“What?”

“I never knew jocks could be so romantic.”

He grinned at me as we stared at each other in our reflections in the mirror.

“I’m not your average jock.”

“You’re my big jock,” I said then giggled.

“Do not tell anyone else that nickname or ever say it in public.”

I smiled, unable to stop.

“Promise,” I said.

He kissed the side of my head. Getting ready for bed had never been so fun or exciting before. Was this love or a one-night stand? In that moment, I didn’t care to figure it out.

Austin

The next morning, she appeared so peaceful still asleep, I carefully got out of bed without waking her. As I stared down at her, I quickly got dressed, having to get home and go for my daily run before early practice, classes, and everything else.

I stopped in the kitchen to see if she had a bottle or water or something to drink. Jocelyn, wearing a ratty brown robe, sat at their round metal and glass table for two.

“Morning, sunshine,” I said. “Where’s your water?”

She glared at me then pointed toward the refrigerator. I opened it up.

“Hey, I didn’t say you could have one.”

“I’m sure it’s fine with Brooke,” I said, grabbing a bottle of water. “You can wake her up if you want, but it’s probably better to let her sleep.”

“Why? So you can sneak out of here like the dog you are?”

“What’s your problem?” I asked. “Seriously.”

“Screw you,” she said, standing up in a huff.

“Whatever. I’m out of here.”

Holding the water bottle and not giving a fuck about her roommate, I left the kitchen and their house. On the few blocks walk to my house, I wondered what the hell had happened the night before. Instead of not thinking about her anymore, she wouldn’t leave my thoughts!
