?I put my glass of wine down.

?“Because I get ideas.”

?Her eyes narrowed. “What kind of ideas?”

?I decided if I focused my eyes on the floor it was the best option.

?“Ideas that are damn foolish while the two of us are accused of murder.”

?“Maybe that’s the best time to think about them,” she replied and also put her glass down. She took a step toward me and brought her hands to my face.

?All at once our mouths met, her warm breath was on my cheek as we pulled each other close.

?Our tongues danced, and she moved her hands up and down my back and made little moans in the back of her throat.

?She pulled away, and we gazed into each other’s eyes.

?“Well…” she attempted.

?“Well?” I repeated.

?“I did have to find out.” She smirked and quietly sat down, her breath faster.

?“Wha—?” I said, the impact of that kiss not lost on me. “What do you mean?”

?“If those previous kisses were an anomaly.”

?“Oh! Uh—verdict?”

?“They weren’t.” She gazed at me with a sense of wonder. She pushed her hair back and smiled. “Most definitely not.”

?I felt a need to do something or I would immediately begin to kiss her again. I got up, went into the kitchen and started to prepare our food from the deli.

?As I heated soup and arranged sandwiches on plates, Sheryl came to the kitchen doorway, leaned against the frame, and watched me with a smile.

?“Do you always run away when a woman kisses you?” she asked.

?I looked up and was sure I flushed again. “I—it’s been a while since I kissed anyone—I mean, like that,” I said, as I stirred the soup in a small pot.

?“Me, too,” she said. “After Randall and I broke up, I lost all interest.”

?“Well, that’s a waste.”

?“What do you mean?”

?“A beautiful, and might I add successful, woman like yourself. I would think you would be escorted by a different fellow every night.”

?She wistfully looked up at the ceiling. “Fellow? No, I shut down. Emotionally, sexually, the works. I thought I would never trust another man as long as I lived.”

?“And now?”

?She ran a hand through her fiery hair in a gesture that I thought was the sexiest thing I had ever seen.

?“I’m considering trying again. Maybe with the right man this time.”

?I put the soup into two bowls.

?“That will be one lucky guy,” I muttered.
