Josh groans while Lily finally joins us at the kitchen table, with freshly made ice buns on a plate, which she sets in the middle. “My niece, Rachel, is pregnant and has been living on these.” Lily points at the buns. “She says it satisfies her sugar rush.”
“They look delicious.” I take one and pause when I see Joshua watching me. I don’t need any hints as to where his mind has gone.
One glance at his mother, and she’s distracted with a sound at the back door, so I glance back to Josh and wiggle my brows. I make sure to really lick my lips of the sugar confectionary.
Joshua squirms in his seat, his eyes narrowing. “Payback’s a bitch, babe,” he hisses between clenched teeth, rearranging his erection, as the backdoor swings open.
Five men walk in so I quickly finish eating the bun that I’ve stuffed into my mouth and lick my fingers.
Joshua stands and hugs the men, standing between two of them with his arms still locked. “Mal, I want you to meet my uncles.” He’s happy to see these men. “At the end there is Ramon and his husband, Noah, then Ruben, Sebastian and Lucien, and this is Mallory.” He grins.
I’m pulled up and into Sebastian’s arms who then passes me around to the others. “It’s great to meet you all. Josh has told me some interesting things,” I say once I’m back with Joshua, his arm around my shoulders.
Ruben laughs, “Ah, the condom story.”
“Or was it the caught in the barn story?” Sebastian adds.
“No, it was probably the skinny dipping story, that’s so much better than the barn one.” Ramon has a say.
Lucien clears his throat. “The lot of you suck. Our Josh here is trying to impress his girl, she doesn’t want to know about the time he used handcuffs.”
Joshua groans. “Ignore the lot of them.”
“Handcuffs.” My mind won’t get past that.
“I was like ten or something and I’d arrested Alexander and Michael.”
Lily chuckles. “That he did. It wasn’t until dinner that I realized the boys hadn’t come in. I asked Michael to go look for them. “Found them naked and handcuffed to the wooden climbing frame we had out there.” She ruffles Joshua’s hair. “Apparently, they’d been teasing Joshua about a girl he liked at school. So he got his own back. Boys will be boys, although they got told I’d leave them all naked in the town square if they ever did anything like that again.”
“And that’s how Joshua found his calling for the FBI, huh?”
There’s a pause then they all chuckle.
“Welcome to the McKenzie family, Mallory.” Michael moves forward and wraps his arms around Lily’s waist. “I think she’s passed the test,” he adds to his brothers.
“You’ll meet our wives at dinner,” Sebastian says. “Carla wasn’t impressed I told her it was the turn of the McKenzie men first. I have to make it up to her later.”
Joshua groans into my neck, so I pat his hand on my shoulder. “I’m going to love being a part of this family.” I sigh.
Sebastian laughs. “Wait till you meet everyone else before you make that decision.”
I snuggle into Joshua and reaching up, claim his lips in a soft kiss. Pulling away, I softly smile, and holding his gaze, I say, “I love Joshua, so I’m not going anywhere.”
“That’s our girl!”
