“Okay, we better go then, Em.” He reached for my hand, squeezing it tightly as we walked out of the kitchen together.

Chapter Forty

Simon

Mirabella was finally asleep and I planned to make the most of that time with Em. After the party, she had refused to tell me what went down between her and Claire, only that she had sorted everything out. I had to admit, it turned me on that Em had ‘claimed me’ as hers. There was something very attractive about Em being outspoken.

“How are you feeling?” I asked her. She was lying on the bed, naked with only a sheet covering half her body.

“I feel tired now,” she smiled, “twice in one day?” she giggled. I joined her on the bed and stroked her back, watching her spasm as I hit the sensitive spots.

“What can I say? Your way too hot for me not to jump you every chance I get,” I mumbled, kissing her neck while my hand tried to fondle her breast. Laughing she moved away, holding her arms over both breasts as if to protect them.

“You don’t like my touches?” I said, trying to look sad. She laughed, curling herself into my arms.

“I love your touches, I’m just sensitive.”

I kissed her neck, holding her body up against mine. This is what I loved. If I could stay in her arms like this, forever, I would.

“What time are your appointments tomorrow?” I asked.

“One for the psychiatrist, and three for the doctor,” she replied.

“And how are you feeling?”

“Okay,” she shrugged. “I just hate the memory loss more than anything, but in a way that seems to have helped the other issues.”

Her memory had not improved much beyond the odd flash, like the night I proposed. She was right that the effect on her memory had seemed to alleviate some of her anxiety issues. Her agoraphobia was still there, as it always would be, but I could see such an improvement in the Emma I knew now.

“Did you know that I love you?” I said softly, flicking her ear with my tongue. She smiled.

“Not as much as I love you,” she whispered.

“Night, Em.”

Chapter Forty-One

Simon sat in the waiting room with Mirabella while I had my appointment with Doctor Nichols. It was like meeting him again because I had no memory of my previous visits. Surprisingly, I wasn’t as awkward and strange as I thought I would be.

“It’s been a while Emma. I was sorry to hear about your health issues. You’re looking good now though. Is that Simon and your baby out there?” he asked easily. I liked him right away.

“Mirabella,” I nodded, smiling. “I feel good. I’m pretty much recovered from the surgery and everything. I don’t remember much from after Derek was killed until I woke up.”

“Nothing has come back to you?” he asked curiously.

“Not much. The odd memory here and there. It might come back over time, or it might not,” I said.

“Does that scare you? Having a hole in your life where these memories you’ve created have just…gone?”

“Well, when you put it like that,” I joked. “I’d rather not remember other parts of my life this, but I’m here and my daughter is here. I’d say I got a pretty good deal there.”

We talked until the end of my half hour about ways of managing my stress, especially being a new mother. He also asked about my issues with Claire and Simon. Until then, I had avoided thinking about how that affected me. The kiss got me angry, but I think it also made me realize that Simon is with me because he loves me.

After our session ended, we walked out together into the waiting room. Simon stood up and smiled, shaking Doctor Nichol’s hand. A few minutes of awkward small talk and we were on our way home.

“Your doctor is kind of nice looking,” Simon commented as we got into the car.

“Is he?” I shrugged. I hadn’t noticed.
