Loki looks to the right. Looks to the left. He tilts his head back and growls. "Fine," he grumbles. "But you better not die on me."

Heimdall grins and pulls out his own weapon, a semi-automatic pistol with laser sight. "If I ever die, it'll be by your hand, not the devil's," he says.

Loki nods. "See you on the flip side, brother."

As we run from the limousine, I can't help but look back at Heimdall and pray he comes out of this unscathed. The vehicle is stopped, but the engine is revving.

The door opens, and Lucifer steps out. A cloud of smog forms around him. He opens his arms and smiles, but before I can see what happens, Loki pulls me away.

"Don't worry about Heimdall. He'll survive," he says. "He's been waiting for this day for a long time."

Raven is quicker than the rest of us, but she stops about a block away from where we're standing. Her attention is focused on something more sinister. It's one of the hounds.

"Hellhound," Loki says. "Raven, get back over here."

The hound is growling and salivating all over the place. He twists his head and bites the air, fiercely.

Raven is completely paralyzed with fear. "I... can't... move..."

Loki winces and looks behind us. Another hound walks into the light. "Shit," he scowls. "We're surrounded."

"Tell me you got a plan, Loki," I said.

"No plan, brother," he warns.

This is the first time I've seen this man worried, and it doesn't sit well. At all.

A third rounds the corner, quickly morphing into the faceless driver I saw a day ago. Laughter shakes the earth and a purple smog forms around his body before he shifts back into a hound again.

I can't say that I'm not terrified, but this is my chance to do something real. Something with truth behind it.

The hounds start rushing in from all sides. I take aim and wrap my finger around the trigger of the pistol. I press it down and fire. It's more difficult than I expect, but my aim is true.

I hit the first hound in the leg, and he goes skidding across the street. Quickly turning, I fire at the other. Then, the other. All of them go down and morph into faceless entities. They all look exactly like the driver of that limousine.

They explode into a thousand dead insects. It's absolutely disgusting.

The ground shakes. The sound of demons screaming echoes across the desolate city landscape. It's the most horrible screeching sound in the world, but I don't let it affect me. I grit my teeth and tirelessly make my next move.

I run and sweep Raven off her feet and scream, "Loki! This way."

And just as we get to the end of the street, his Honda Civic screeches around the corner. "Heimdall," Loki says with a giant grin on his face. "Son of a bitch..."

We jump in the car and speed away from the hellish city, hoping never to return again.

The sound of the road jars me awake. My mouth is so dry I feel like I could drink an entire lake. Loki glances back and tosses a water bottle in my lap. "Hydrate. It's good for you," he says.

I twist off the cap and take a sip. As refreshing as it is, it's not what I'm looking for. Nothing can make me feel safe after what I just saw. "You guys saw those insects. What were they?" I ask.

"They seemed to be a part of their genetic makeup," Heimdall says.

"Whatever they are, that gun seemed to do the trick," Loki says. "I know Lucifer gave it to you, but it seems safe enough to use. I'd keep it, just in case."

“Yeah. My gun didn’t do any damage against him,” Heimdall says.

I pull out the weapon and look at the symbols. There's the pentagram on the butt. Inside the barrel is a red apple. There are signs of both good and evil carved into this gun.

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure of the significance.
