We've been driving for hours, and Raven has been completely

silent. For the most part, so have Loki and Heimdall. However, as we pull off toward a small rest area, everyone seems ready to talk about what we just saw.

Heimdall opens the driver door and leans forward, sighing with grief. "It's worse than I thought," he says. "I thought they might find us eventually, but I didn't think they'd come that fast. They were so prepared."

"How do you think they found us?" Loki asks.

Heimdall shrugs. "Beats me. Maybe he's been following us this entire time," he says.

I shake my head, perplexed by the whole thing. I mean, I shouldn't be. After all, he's connected to the fall of man. He clearly has some unknown powers. Still, I'm grasping at straws as to how this all works.

"I don't know what he's capable of, but I have a feeling he doesn't need to follow us," I say.

Raven places her hands over her face, sighing. "What are you suggesting? That he can just track us wherever we go?" she asks.

"Impossible," Heimdall says. "He's not a god. He doesn't have any higher power anymore."

"But those hounds do," I argue. "Isn't it possible he's using them to sniff us out?"

"A GPS system from hell? Now I've heard everything," Raven says.

"Look, I don't have a clue what is true and what isn't," Loki says. "What I do know is we need to get you out of here A.S.A.P."

Heimdall groans. "Yeah, but where the hell do we go?" he asks.

We all step around the car and ponder this thought.

Outside, the air feels heavy. I look yonder, toward the city we left behind. There are only a few lights still on, and I have to wonder how many people will come out of this unscathed.

On the other side of the highway is a long and endless beach. The smell of salt, sand, and seaweed wafts into my nose. It reminds me of vacations with mom. We used to love going to the beach. It was a place we could feel safe at.

Seeing the ocean now makes me feel a little sad. I keep asking myself if this is the last time I'll get to see it.

It has been years since families vacated the shoreline, and some of the houses were left to decay and crumble. They stand, despite the water's far reach. They wait for more memories to be made.

We must keep moving.

These experiences have been difficult, to say the least, but I know we can get through them.

"Where should we go?" I finally ask.

Luckily, Loki has devised a plan. "I know of one place we can go to," he says.

Heimdall nods his head, but his jaw is shut tight. Finally, he asks, "You serious? It's been ages."

"Dead serious," Loki says.

Raven cuts in the middle. "Spill it. Where are you taking us?"

Loki looks into the sky. He doesn't look all too excited. "My father's house," he says.

"Okay. Sounds cool," I say. "Well, we should get moving then, right?"

He lowers his voice. "You don't know my father," he says. "He's a real bastard."

Before anyone can answer, he walks back to the car and shuts himself in. I start to go after him, but Heimdall grabs my shoulder and gets me to stop.

"Don't," he says. "It's a... touchy subject. He was adopted at an early age. I suppose the wounds will now reopen."
