She gasped as he entered her, her nails digging into his shoulder blades and her breathing fast and wild. She hadn't thought such intensity of pleasure could exist but then the fierce rhythms within the core of her became all-consuming and he took her to a place she had never been before, a place where there was only the two of them and the rest of the world ceased to exist.

It felt like a long time before she could move or even open her eyes, but when she did the grey gaze was waiting for her. 'Well, Mrs. Black?' He traced a path down the side of her face with a lazy finger. 'Worth waiting for?'

She touched her fingers to his mouth, her voice holding wonder and bewilderment. 'I never knew,' she whispered faintly. 'I've never before...'

He smiled. 'It's the jackpot, sweetheart,' he murmured throatily. 'Heaven on earth. It's what happens when you're one part of a perfect whole.'

'Did you know? That it could be so...'

'If you're asking me if I've ever come close to feeling like this then the answer's no.' He pulled her against him, the slow heavy beat of his heart and the rough feel of his body hair against the smooth silkiness of her skin intoxicating. 'You've blown me away, woman, if you want to know. You were everything I've ever dreamed of, every fantasy I've ever had. My perfect, beautiful, amazing Beth.' He took her face in his strong hands, cupping it tenderly as he kissed her long and deeply on the lips. 'For ever,' he whispered against the hot flushed skin of her face. 'Does that bother you? Frighten you? Even just the slightest? You can tell me, I won't mind.'

'Of course it doesn't.' The love in her eyes was answer enough for him.

'All the gremlins vanquished?' he said, his smile growing.

'They didn't stand a chance once I'd met you.'

'I'm going to make up for every minute of unhappiness you've ever had, every blue mood, every tear you've cried.' Suddenly the amusement had gone and he was deadly serious, his hand tracing her face with exquisite gentleness. 'I can't change the past, my darling, but I can make the future ours and it will be wonderful.'

She wondered if he'd guessed she'd shed a tear for her mother that morning, aching for her to see her dressed in her wedding finery. She thought so. He seemed so tender.

'We're going to be more happy than any couple has ever been since the foundation of the world, do you believe that?' he murmured against her lips. 'Do you feel it deep inside?'

She nodded. His hands were working their magic again and she was finding speech impossible.

His arms tightened around her and, as she met him kiss for kiss, she wondered what she had ever done to deserve such a love as this. As her body melted into his, she knew she wanted nothing more for the rest of her life than this man beside her.

Much later they fell asleep in each other's arms, entwined and fitted together like a perfect living jigsaw, replete and content. Two lives joined together for eternity, two hearts beating as one. Despite all the odds, they had found each other—the dream had become reality. They were home.
