“Why did he pull a gun on you?” he asked.

“Mr. Sokolov, do we need to do this now?”

He ran a finger along her jaw and tilted it slightly so she would look at him. Stroking her lower lip with his thumb, he could see the pain in her gorgeous green eyes and it made him feel worse.

“Ivan, remember our private discussion in the office?”

She glanced upward but then cringe and closed her eyes. “We aren’t alone though.” She said.

He knew his cousins, his best friend Commerce would ask him questions and know he had feelings for Annabella, but he didn’t care because he trusted them. Plus they would know by now how he felt about her. He hadn’t let anyone but Victor near her, and he held her close, whispered things to her, and kissed her softly as she moaned in pain.

“This is my penthouse, these men are my family, and we speak freely in front of one another. So explain.” He said.

She adjusted slightly and he held her gaze.

She blinked her eyes, and cringe as if speaking hurt.

“I saw Berin sliding something to a few different people throughout the night.”

“Sliding something?” he asked.

“I don’t know what. I figured maybe drugs, but then I think one was a note. There was a guy there I recognized. I’ve seen him before.” She said and then exhaled as if trying to get through pain. She lifted up and the blanket lowered slightly revealing more of her dress, the gap in it and cleavage of her breasts.

“Tell us what you know and then you can rest.” He said to her and adjusted the blanket. She stared at him.

“He got nasty with me by the bar at the end of the night when he was counting his money. I snapped at him. I was tired, and not in the mood for another man trying to talk down to me and give me shit.” She said and once again gave him the evil eyes.

“He reacted, grabbed my wrist and I told him I saw him doing crap and that if he did it again I would tell Lucca.”

“Why didn’t you tell Lucca?” Dante asked. She glanced at him.

“I was tired, annoyed at the evenings events, and just wanted to go home and be done.”

“You were supposed to wait for me.” Roman said to her in a reprimanding tone.

“I was avoiding further confrontation Roman. I was angry at being used like some pawn in a game between your boss and Maloney. I wanted to be done with work and go home.” She said and looked away from Ivan. He clutched her chin.

“I’ll deal with that when you are better, as well as your misconception of my actions. Now what else can you tell us about this?” Ivan asked her.

“Nothing really. It ended and I walked out and the next thing I know he’s pointing a gun at me and you know the rest.”

“Could be coincidental. We’ve had a feeling he’s been doing some drug dealing on the down low in the club.” Mirnon said.

“You warned Griska about him

.” Dante added.

“He’s small time and that hit was big time at the warehouse and strategically planned. Someone on the inside knew the time the truck would be loaded and then leaving.” Commerce said.

“Broadway and 5th is accessible and if security was lacking, and a breakdown because of the bosses”

“Wait, Broadway and 5th?” She asked, interrupting Roman.

“What about it?” Ivan asked.

“One guy was there tonight, and Berin slid him a note or something and then I followed him to the back hallway.”

“You did what?” Commerce asked before Ivan could.
