I LOVE TORTURING WEAK MINDS

KARINA

If Nathan wanted to talk about whatever was going on between us at a later time, then fine. We’d talk about it at later, but that would not stop me from trying to push the conversation forward.

Nathan had fallen asleep beside me at some point in the night. His arm draped around my waist, despite the space he put between us. His shoulders rose as he took a breath in, falling when he exhaled. He looked completely at peace.

I poked his shoulder. No response, which was interesting considering he was supposed to be on alert twenty-four-seven. But maybe it was because of where we were? Either way, I climbed over him.

His eyes shot open. Without warning, he flipped us over and pinned my hands down against the mattress. Sleepy eyes trailed over my body. A sigh of relief escaped his lips. “I thought you were someone else.”

Lowering his head, Nathan rested it against my shoulder. His warm breath tingled on my skin.

“No, just me.” Wiggling beneath him. His body tensed at my sudden movements.

“Please stop doing that,” Nathan muttered, his voice strained.

A smirk made its way onto my lips. “What’s wrong, getting excited?”

He lifted his head at my response. Still sleepy, but now aflame, he stared at me. “I’m easily aroused in the morning.”

“Oh, ok.” I moved under his body even more, feeling him poking against me.

His eyes rolled back slightly, which made me even more aroused. “Now you’re just torturing me.”

“Of course. I love torturing weak minds like yours.” I smiled.

He stifled a laugh. “Weak, I’m weak? Coming from the woman trying to seduce a poor helpless bodyguard who just woke up, wow.”

“Is it working?” I pouted, staring up at him with wide, innocent eyes.

He stared at me for a while, picking his body up from mine by an inch. Not that it helped. I could still feel his predicament on my thigh. Shaking his head, Nathan laughed. “Are you really that horny?”

I shrugged my shoulders. “No, I just like feeling your fingers on me.” I glanced over to my wrists, still bounded by his hands. “And you pinning me down.”

He laughed once more. “Kinky.”

“You can always find out.” I smirked.

He gave a devilish smile. “You sure you want me to find out?”

“It wouldn’t be the first time you found out things about me that others haven’t.” I leaned up, pressing my lips to the corner of his.

That seemed to be enough for him to capture my mouth, forcing my head back onto the pillow. But he pulled away after just one taste.

“Maybe another time, Princess.”

He was kidding, right? That apologetic look on his face told me otherwise. I ripped my arms from his grasp and shoved him off of me. “Maybe never again.”

Blood sizzled underneath my skin as I got up from the bed. I walked over to the door and pulled it open, only to be met with his grandmother’s blue eyes. Mine trailed down to the clothes she held in her delicate hand. “I hope these fit you. These used to belong to Cole’s girlfriend. She left them here a while back.”

I blinked twice and took the dress. I held it up to my body. It was big, a little too big for my small frame, but I could make it work with some pins and needles. “Do you have a sewing kit?”

His grandmother’s eyes brightened, and her smile grew wide. “Of course I do. Come, come.” She wrapped her arm around my shoulder and led me out of the room.

I took one last look at the bastard smirking as he propped his elbows up on the floor before I made my way alongside his grandmother through the small kitchen and into the living room. The scent of apple cinnamon filled the room. My eyes drifted around the various pictures of young boys, whom I assumed were Nathan and his brothers, adorned the wall above the tv stand.

I sat across from her on the couch as she reached under the coffee table and pulled out a sewing kit and a sewing machine. “Would you like me to hem it for you, dear?”

I smiled at her and shook my head. “No, thank you. My mom and great grandmother actually taught me how to sew.”

“Although that may be so, let me do it for you. This way, you won’t have to break it apart if you make it too small.” Her eyes glistened with kindness.

She had a point. Usually, I had a model.

I stood up from the couch and put the dress over my nightgown and slid it off from under. I stood close to her, allowing her to start her work.

“I’m happy to see Nathan has finally taken a liking to someone.” She kept her attention on my hips as she sewed. “Enough to bring them here, at least.”

“I don’t think he had a choice.”

“I believe he did.” The old woman looked up at me with a smile. I could make out the lines of her cheekbones under her wrinkled skin. But her eyes glowed, taking the attention off her elderly features as she tucked a sliver lock behind her ear.

“There were many places he could have gone, but he chose here and brought you along,” she continued.

This was true. My father’s hotel and Bunny’s, even if her place was hours away, were other options. Yet he took me home with him. Why? I made a mental note to ask him later.

“I guess so.”

“You guess, but I know. I am well aware of how Nathan is. I raised him.” She looked back down, continuing to hem the dress. “Protecting, playful, and loving. He means well, even when he messes up. He thinks with his head.” She pointed to the crown of her head. “Unlike a few men out there.”

Oh, his grandmother was definitely trying to sell him. And I couldn’t help but chuckle. “Has he ever brought a girl home before?”

“Nathan has never been in a serious relationship. Said they were all friends.” She shrugged. “But he’s also never cared for anyone the way he cares for you.”

“He kind of has no choice.”

“He does, dear.” She smiled up at me again. “Everyone has a choice, even when fate and destiny are bringing two people together. That is why some end up with one another and some do not.” She let out a gentle sigh. “Nathan chooses to stay by your side and protect you with his life.”

As wise as she seemed, there was one problem. “That doesn’t mean he wants anything with me.”

“Dear, you seem like a woman who has her head on straight. I’m sure you’ve noticed the way he is with you.”

I had, but I assumed he was like that with every girl. Polite, charming in his own way, and flirtatious. Though, I also knew he liked me and was interested, just not enough to let himself give in entirely.

And that alone made me I wanted to see him crack, see how he would be like if every fiber of his wall shattered into pieces at the flick of a finger. But he hadn’t yet, and I wasn’t sure he was ever going to. Within two months, he wiggled his way into my life and I only hit a brick wall.

“I have, but he’s a hard one to crack,” I said

“Give him time. Nathan will come around.” His grandmother dropped her hands from the dress, and I glanced down, looking at the work she had done. A perfect fit.

“Thank you, Mrs. James?”

“Oh no dear, James is Nathan’s middle name.” She chuckled softly. “It’s Lisa Rainer.” she said with a warm smile. “But please, call me Nana.”

Hearing the door open, I glanced back, catching Nathan staring over my body. “Whose dress is that?”

“It belongs to her now.” Nana’s eyes lit up with happiness.

I swore she was becoming one of my favorite elders.

“Do you have a problem with that?” I added.

Nathan smirked. “No, not at all. I think it fits you well. Tight in the right places, but loose in the ones that matter.” His eyes flickered down to the hem of my dress.

“Nathan James Rainer, respect.” Nana snapped at him. His eyes shot back up to my face and I couldn’t help but laugh.

“I’m sorry Nana.”

“I’m not the one you were undressing.” She snapped back.

Nathan stifled a laugh. “I’m sorry, Karina.” A boyish grin played on his face, and I could tell from the look in his eye that his apology was bullshit. And I was glad.

“Stare all you want. It’s not like you’ll be having any of this, anyway.” I shrugged. Looking back at Nana, I took her soft, dainty hands in mine and smiled. “Thank you, I love it.”

“You are most welcome. It’s the least I could do for you since you kept Nathan on a leash.”

“I’m not a dog, Nana,” Nathan chimed in.

“You may as well be.” I snapped back, rolling my eyes.

“Are you both staying for breakfast?” Nana asked, looking between the two of us.

Before I could nod in response, Nathan opened his mouth. “No, actually. We have to head back. Your father just called and told us to meet with him at the hotel.”

My father… I nodded, glad he was alive and well. If Nathan had done anything for me since last night, it was distracting me from horrible thoughts of what could have happened, and I couldn’t thank him enough for it.

Maybe when we got back, I could give him something in return. Something he’d enjoy, but what exactly would he have liked? Except for not having blue balls all the time...

Guess I would have to ask around.
