Her soft touch was gentle, and all I could do was simply nod my head, letting her do her job. The bloodied fabric fell to the floor, exposing the wounds on my upper body. I was hoping that no bullet had lodged itself into my body, because that would be just hell to get fixed. But it was obvious that she was a nurse by how her hands did not shake, and she simply cleaned and examined the wounds.

“These are from bullets.” She concluded, looking up at me curiously, “care to explain?”

A smirk made its way onto my face, finding it a little cute, “I guess I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Her beautiful eyes narrowed slightly, pulling out the alcohol wipes, “well, either way, you were very lucky. You have two grazed cuts on your abdomen, and the bullet went cleanly through your arm. I have never met someone with as much luck as you, so consider yourself lucky.”

“I’d like to say luck is my middle name.” I teased her, feeling the sting of the alcohol on the wounds, “my name is Graham, Graham Lennon. What’s your name, beautiful?”

She looked up at me momentarily, her eyebrows furrowed in a cute little way, “my name is Evelyn, but you can call me Eve.”

“Evelyn.” I tested her name on my tongue, loving it, “that’s a beautiful name for a beautiful woman. I’d rather not call you Eve if that’s okay with you.”

“Whatever you want.” She replied, packing my wounds with gauze and covering them up with bandages, “listen, it’s getting late and I have a feeling those buddies of yours who did this are probably going to be out there looking for you still. I won’t pressure you into telling me the truth, I can see for myself, but I’ll let you use my spare bedroom so long as you are gone in the morning. I have to get to work pretty early. And you also need to go see a doctor about getting that all checked out. I’ve done what I can.”

“Of course.” I told her, feeling the hot need course through my veins, “I have my physician who can stitch me up. I think you did a mighty fine job though, beautiful.”

Her cheeks flushed a little red as she tossed the bloody wipes and clothes into the trash, “can you please stop calling me beautiful? I’m not sure how to handle it.”

“Sorry.” I apologized, not really meaning it, “it’s just the truth so I can’t help it, but if it makes you uncomfortable, I will do what you like.”

Her cautious eyes turned towards me once again, and I could see the hesitancy there. I knew then that she must’ve been hurt a time or two in her life, and that she wasn’t used to a man being nice to her and calling her beautiful. I knew I must look dangerous to her considering the predicament she found me in, but I owe her everything and much more.

“Can you show me to the room?” I asked her, fishing for my phone in my pocket, “and do you have a charger for an iPhone? It seems to have died and I have some… friends who are no doubt worried about me.”

“Of course!” She headed towards the short hallway, “I always have a spare in case I lose the one I have. Please follow me.”

Even though my body was screaming in protest, I rose to my feet and followed her down the little hall to a door on the left. She opened it, moving aside to let me walk past her. The spare bedroom was neat and simple, with a made bed and a nightstand beside it. It made me wonder how her own bedroom would look.

“Here’s the charger!” She told me, grabbing it off the top of the dresser, “sometimes my friends stay over here so I gotta make sure that they have everything they need. I hope it is a comfortable stay for you, Graham.”

She gave me no chance to respond as she quickly closed the door, and I heard her soft footsteps as she walked away. Sighing, I sat down on the edge of the bed, plugging my phone into the charger. I could only prepare myself for the onslaught of messages I was going to receive the moment I turned my phone on. But, unless I wanted them burning down the entire city looking for me, this was just going to have to be the best bet.

Groaning softly in pain, I managed to slide my pants down to the floor, my boxers quick to follow. Seeing the grime on my body, I managed to make my way over to the connected bathroom, grabbing a washcloth and wiping off the nastiness that coated my body. It left the water in the sink dirty, but it was just going to have to work until I was going to be able to get home to get a real shower after seeing my physician.

Stepping back into the bedroom, Evelyn and I both froze as our eyes connected, seeing her placing the clothes on the edge of the bed. I saw her eyes flit down, her cheeks burning red as she quickly looked away, stepping back.

“Oh, I’m so sorry!” She apologized quickly, stuttering over her own words, “I saw you were in the bathroom but I didn’t know that you were going to come back out. Um, I laid out some clothes for you, so I hope you rest well.”

I saw her glance one more time down, eyes widening ever so slightly as she gazed down at the lower part of me before she whipped around and ran out of the bedroom, slamming the door shut behind her. I chuckled to myself, knowing just the sight of what she had just seen, but I couldn’t feel bad for her. Soon, it’ll be all hers, and she can look as much as she wants to. It’ll be the start of my plan.
