Chapter thirteen

Donovan

I’minameeting Monday morning and I can’t keep the grin off my face. The staff is looking at me like I’ve grown a third eyeball. They’re not used to seeing their boss so relaxed, but that’s what the memory of Kasey does for me. I have to try to keep it tamed, though, or I’ll have a situation in my pants that would probably get me sued by the female members of my staff. It’s hard, though, figuratively and literally, so I have to stay seated most of the meeting. The woman is a distraction of the best variety, but I need to focus on work and winning this campaign. We’re about to hit the road for a few days when Sean comes in to go over a few press releases with me for final approval. Some candidates would leave it to the staff to handle, but my father taught me it’s never a good idea to allow others to speak for you. I never want to clean up a mistake that anyone makes using my name.

“Well, I think that’s about it. I’m leaving now to get there a little early and make sure everything is set up for when you arrive. I like that we’re doing a campaign stop at an animal shelter. Pulls on the heartstrings of voters. Good call.” This man has been in politics for too long. His tone on the cynical side. It’s true that people love the idea of a candidate who cares about animals and all that, but this is an adoption event for the shelter. I’m hoping it will be a mutually beneficial event. Animals get adopted and I get some voters.

“All right, thanks, Sean. I’ll see you when I get there.”

He leaves and I decide to send a text to Kasey. Just because I’m thinking of her. We have to talk about where this is going at some point. I want her to know that she’s it. After this weekend, I know I’m in this for the long haul. It may seem fast, but the chemistry and the fact that I’m not only attracted to her body but her mind as well tells me I’ve hit the jackpot with her. I’ve never been so certain about being with someone. The way she makes me laugh and the sass she gives me are so different from any other woman I’ve been with. I need a woman who surprises me. She definitely does that. The other relationships I’ve been in were predictably nice. But that was it, just nice. Kasey is exciting and bold.

Me: Hi beautiful just wanted to say good morning and I’m thinking of u. I’ll call u tonight

Kasey: I’ve been thinking of u too. Especially in the shower this morning ;)

This girl and that mouth of hers. I like the fact that she gives as good as she gets. More than like, if I’m being honest. I knew she would be explosive and there’s little I like more than being right.

Me: Mmm I like ur dirty mind baby. Hold those thoughts till I can talk to u tonight

Kasey: We’ll see…

Little minx.

I get on the road and do some more paperwork while we’re driving. I feel like my days are ninety percent paperwork and about ten percent everything else. Until Kasey. Now my mind wanders to her and I can’t say I’m too upset by that fact. She’s a welcome addition to my otherwise boring existence that, until recently, I didn’t know I wanted or needed.

The event is a success. Anytime voters can see my human side and not just another politician is a huge win. After our regular evening strategy meeting and dinner, it’s time to wind down and start again tomorrow. When I get back to my hotel, the night clerk hands me an envelope that was delivered. I get in the elevator and head to my room. I open the envelope and it’s more pictures of Jackson. Instead of being taken at a sex club that he told me he hadn’t been to in months, these are recent. Recent as in just a couple days ago when I called him and he was out with friends. Shit. Who the fuck is sending these to me? There’s nothing tawdry about these. Just him having a drink with friends. No one has come forward to collect blackmail money. Why the hell do I keep getting them then? I put the pictures on the desk in the room and pick up my phone to call Aiden.

“Sir?” He answers on the first ring.

“I got more fucking pictures, Aiden. Where are you with figuring out who keeps sending me this shit?”

“I haven’t gotten too far with it. With no contact from the person responsible, we have little to go on. I’ll call the hotel and see if I can get into the cameras without getting the police involved. I know you want to keep this quiet.”

Of course I’m concerned about this getting out. I just wish I knew what the endgame is here. The first few times, I was sure someone was going to be asking for money. These are just from an ordinary bar, so why would this person even bother?

“I’ll send these over to you, too. Do me a favor and trail Jackson for a few days. Maybe you’ll be able to catch anyone suspicious following him,” I say.

“Already on it. So far I haven’t seen anything,” he replies.

I should have known that Aiden didn’t need to be asked to do that. I trust him implicitly to do his job and be the best there is at it.

“Okay, keep me posted.”

“Yes, sir, good night,” and he hangs up.

I decide to call Kasey. Not because I want her to tell me all her dirty thoughts that she had in the shower, not that I would mind, but I need to hear her voice. It was a good day that’s ending on a shitty note. I want to turn that around.

“Hello,” she purrs into the phone. Fuck, just her voice is a turn-on.

“Hi, beautiful. I didn’t wake you, did I?”

“No, not quite yet. A few more minutes and I would have been dead to the world, though. Busy day?” she asks.

“Just had to take care of a few things when I got back to the hotel. Listen, I’ll be home on Thursday. Any way you can sneak away for the weekend and come with me to my family’s lake house? Me, you, and a full weekend of orgasms. How’s that sound?”

“Mmm, sounds amazing. I think I can fit you into my schedule. Better feed me too, so I have energy for all these orgasms you’re promising.”

“I’ll cook anything you want. All I need is to eat that sweet pussy of yours and I’m good.”

She laughs at me. God, I love that sound.

“I think you’ll need a little more than that, but I like where your head is at.” Her voice is so sexy when she’s tired and turned on by my words.

“Okay, beautiful, I’ll let you get some sleep. By the way, are you wearing my shirt again to sleep in?”

“Maybe.” She chuckles. “I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Good night,” she sings into the phone and hangs up. A minute later, I get a text with just a picture of her in my shirt and a sleepy smile on her face. Perfection.

The next few days are more of the same, campaign events and paperwork. The momentum gaining for my campaign is promising. My parents even come out for an event to show support. We have dinner together and they both comment on how well I’m doing in the polls. My mother also tells me she’s surprised by how relaxed and happy I seem. I don’t tell her it’s because every night I talk to the most intriguing woman I’ve ever known and I have a weekend of orgasms planned for when I get back. That may be oversharing.
