I blink, confusion mixing with everything else going on in my head right now.

His phone starts buzzing again. Sebastian tears his eyes from mine and pivots away from me before answering it. “I’m busy.”

I can hear an angry voice on the other end of the line. After several moments, Sebastian says, “I’ll take care of it.”

He ends the call and turns to face me again. His expression is neutral. “I’m afraid we’ll have to press pause.”

His fingers move across his phone again, sending a quick text.

“I’ll have my assistant show you to one of the guest cottages behind the winery,” Sebastian continues. “You can get settled in, and we’ll continue this later.”

“Oh, you want me to stay on the property?” I ask, raising my brows. “I have an apartment in town.”

Sebastian steps toward me and runs one finger across the tops of each of my exposed breasts, which are still dripping with wine, then places his finger in his mouth.

“I want you as close to me as possible,” he says, his voice low and velvety.

There’s the sound of heels on the stairs above us, and a moment later a woman appears. Or rather, a demon. She has long black hair and stunning blue eyes. She’s wearing a form-fitting gray dress, almost as if she’s color-coordinating with Sebastian’s suit. Except for the cherry-red spiked heels.

“Violet,” Sebastian says. “Luciana is going to be working with us. Show her to one of the cottages and get her anything she needs.”

Violet pays no attention to my state of undress: my blouse untucked, torn, and drenched in sparkling wine. She smiles broadly and says, “Certainly.” Then she turns and leads the way back up the stairs.

Sebastian gestures for me to follow her, and he takes up the rear. I can feel his eyes on my ass as I ascend the steps. When we reach the first floor of the winery, Violet leads me across the building, opposite the way I’d come in, and out a door in the back. As we step outside, I turn to look at Sebastian.

“Be ready for the rest of your interview,” he says in a darkly seductive voice.

I feel my sex clench again, and his eyes flick down between my legs.

“Of course,” I say, throwing him my best smile. Then I turn and follow Violet outside.

The cottages aren’t far. We stride down a paved path through a row of manicured trees and hedges, and they’re right on the other side. There are five of them. Violet turns left and leads me to the one at the far end. Each of them looks like something out of an English village, gray stone with little gardens around them. Mine has a red door. Violet opens it and strides inside, flipping on the lights.

Then she turns around and faces me, and her pretty little smile drops. “I see you could use some new clothes.”

I freeze for a moment, then smile. “Thanks so much,” I say. “That would be great.”

“Anything for Sebastian’s flavor du jour,” she snaps.

“Excuse me?”

“Sebastian goes through a woman a day,” Violet says with a sharp smile. “Sometimes more than one. Don’t think you’re special.”

I recover from her sudden shift in attitude, crossing my arms over my chest. “If I’m not special, then why are you so upset?”

She rolls her eyes. “Don’t flatter yourself.”

And with that, she turns and strides back out the door, slamming it behind her.

It seems I’ve already made an enemy. Which is the last thing I need right now.
