Chapter Thirteen

Luciana

I’m terribly flustered when Sebastian leaves me in the wine cellar. Not just because he sent me a list of every demon attending the summit. But because I’ve never wanted anyone more in my entire life.

I had a very healthy sex drive before as just a witch. Apparently, however, demons are just on sexual overdrive all the time, because this is intense. And a very inconvenient time to be having such a discovery.

Except… it’s not like I want everyone. Caspian gives me the creeps, I’m not attracted to him in the least. And Aza, while certainly a beautiful woman, hadn’t triggered the same sort of raw animal lust that I feel for Sebastian.

I’d come so close to begging him not to leave but pure, stubborn pride had stopped me at the last moment. I have to pull it together—I came here to destroy Sebastian Black and the entire Night Guild. Running around like a horny teenager isn’t going to help me do that. Quite the opposite.

The thing is, I’m not sure I can control myself. This new magic running through me is so strong…

Taking a deep breath, I draw myself up straight and head into the adjacent room. I pick out a large stainless-steel ice bucket for the champagne, and a basket for the other items. I fill Aza’s first, as Sebastian requested, filling it with chevre and smoked gouda, rosemary crackers, blackberry honey, and dark chocolate with chili peppers. Two bottles of champagne go into the bucket, and two bottles of merlot go into the basket along with the gourmet snacks. Then I head toward the hotel with both.

Aza has of course claimed the most luxurious accommodations on the entire property, a three-bedroom suite with windows overlooking the vineyards. I knock on the door, then step back and wait for someone to answer it. A few moments later, a man in his early twenties wearing nothing but a leather thong opens the door.

I barely blink. I was expecting no less. “I’m here with gifts from Sebastian.”

Through the half-open door, I hear Aza call out, “How splendid!” The nearly naked man steps back so I can enter.

I walk through a sitting room into the bedroom beyond. Aza is sprawled across an enormous bed, wearing nothing but lingerie and accompanied by several other people, none of whom are wearing more than a shred of clothing. When she sees me, her eyes widen.

“Oh! Did Sebastian send you to make up for his rude behavior yesterday? With bubbly?”

I smile sweetly. “Bubbly, yes. And some local treats.”

“You’re the only treat near that basket I want to nibble on,” Aza says in a sultry tone, hooking her finger at me and gesturing for me to come closer.

A blush moves across my cheeks. “Where would you like me to place your champagne?” I cast my eyes around the bedroom, debating how I can get out of this without being drawn into another orgy. Damn Sebastian. He had to know this was going to happen.

Aza holds out her hand.

“I can pour it for you?” I set the basket and ice bucket down on a side table and pull two flutes from the basket.

“No need,” Aza says. “Just hand it here.”

I approach and pass over the bottle as instructed. She peels off the wire holder on top and then pops the cap with a squeal. Champagne spews into the air, getting all over Aza’s bed fellows, who giggle and roll around. I step aside just in time, narrowly avoiding another incident like yesterday. Not that I minded then…

Aza places the still foaming bottle to her lips and takes a long chug. Then she extends it out toward me. “Taste?”

“No, thank you.” I smile again. “That’s kind of you.”

“Oh, drop the formalities,” Aza groans. “We partied together yesterday. We made out, for fuck’s sake.” She shrugs. “I don’t even know your name.”

“Luciana,” I say with a nod.

“Sebastian must have you wrapped around his finger,” she says, shaking her head and pouting her lips. “Tell him I won’t accept any more gifts unless you come with them. He doesn’t want to see me disappointed, I’m sure of it.”

“I’ll be sure to pass along the message.” A final smile. “Enjoy.”

I turn and make my escape before it’s too late. Thong guy walks me out and shuts the door behind me, and I hear a raucous yell from the others. I’m not sure if I’ll really tell Sebastian or not… I don’t want to make it seem like I can’t handle myself. But I’m also not sure how far Aza is going to push things. It seems like I might be the pawn in her next power play, just like her early arrival and takeover of the ballroom.

Shaking my head, I stride back across the courtyard to the winery. I’ll figure that out later. It’s the least of my problems. As I walk, I take a moment to forward the email with the summit member’s names to Tamsin and the others.

When I get back to the main cellar, Violet is there. She scowls as I enter the room. I offer her a polite smile, ignoring the death stare she casts me, and start collecting items for Drazos. I’ve just found the bottle of shiraz I need when I hear her heels clicking as she comes up behind me. I turn around, bottle in hand, to find her standing there, arms across her chest.

“I know what you are,” she hisses, blue eyes narrowed dangerously.
