“Dude, ifyouwanted to borrow my boat, you could have just asked, no need to stick the Mom Brigade on me.” Eli says as we walk into the IceBerg later that afternoon.

I’d been able to catch a few hours of sleep before our beer league game and my date with Jenni this morning, but apparently not enough since I had no idea what he was talking about. All I knew was that if it involved the Mom Brigade, as we referred to our four mothers, it wasn’t good. Those four ladies had raised six boys and two girls between them, and everyone of us was a handful on our own, forget when we were all together. Now they thought marrying us off and getting grandchildren was some kind of reward they had earned.

“What? Why would I need your boat?”

“Oh, shit! You don’t know?” Dylan asks as he laughs so hard he has to hold himself up against the concrete wall.

“What am I missing?”

“You went on a date this morning.” Brendan responds.

“At the diner.” Eli adds in, and suddenly it hits me.

“Oh, no.” I groan and the fuckers laugh hysterically. “The Mom Brigade smells blood in the water, don’t they?”

“Like sharks swimming around a shipwreck.” Ryan responds.

“You should know better.” Jacob tells me as we walk into the locker room.

“I should, but I wasn’t thinking when I made the suggestion. All I knew was I wanted to spend some time with her before she left.”

Suddenly the room goes silent. and I look around to see them all staring, slack-jawed at me.

“What?” I ask in confusion.

“You like her…” Brendan whispers, looking around the room as if expecting someone to pop out of a dark corner.

“Shit.” I mutter as I swipe my hand over my face. “I didn’t really get a lot of time alone with her, but yeah… I think I might. She’s… she’s different. The little time I spent with her this morning made me want to spend even more with her. But she’s heading back today, so I don’t know how that’s going to work.”

“Nope, she’s not. She extended her stay another day according to my mom.” Brendan tells me.

“Really?” I pull out my phone to check if I have any missed messages and find one from her.

Jenni: I hope it’s okay, I decided to stay in town for another day. Dee-Dee says I need to be ready by 8 because you’re supposed to pick me up.

Shit, she sent that message two hours ago. I quickly unlock the phone and reply back to her.

Me: Hi. Sorry it took me so long to reply. I’m with my boys from the beer league. I’m really glad you decided to stay. 8 is perfect. See you then, and dress warm.

Once I hit send, my eyes shoot up to meet Eli’s.

“I’m going to need your boat.” I tell him.

“So I heard.” He responds with a knowing smirk.

“Great. Now that you have screwed the rest of us over and sentenced us to an eternity of accidental encounters with every single woman in a hundred mile radius, think we can play some more hockey?” Jacob asks and I respond by flipping him off.

Two hours later, our team, the Landing Lions, came off the ice victorious over the Ryken Roadsters with a final score of three to two after a period of overtime and two rounds of a shootout.

I was already on a high from the excitement of the game, and the thought of getting to see Jenni again tonight, only seemed to lift it higher. It was a weird feeling, being excited to see a girl. Before I met her, girls were always around, always offering up whatever I wanted, but all I ever wanted was a good time.

With Jenni, it’s different. Sure, I want to have sex with her and feel her tight body fall apart while I’m inside her, but it’s more than that. I want to hear what she has to say, get to know her, spend time with her.

The weird part is… that doesn’t even scare me.

Prior to meeting Jenni yesterday, I would have ran fast and far if a woman had told me she was virgin, because that meant no sex, and sex was all I wanted from them. But when Jenni told me she was, I just wanted to pull her in close and erase all the anxiety she was feeling.
