Jenni

Myfaceisstill on fire as I stomp my way down the block.

I can’t believe that I walked out of my room in my pajamas. It was just my luck that they weren’t just any pajamas, no, they were the skimpy silk pajamas that Jess had given me for Christmas. She told me they would help me ‘get some,’ and that a little sex would help loosen me up. The only reason I still had them was because I loved the way the silk felt against my skin, but they weren’t meant to be seen by anyone but me. Much less worn out in public and in front of the hottest guy I’ve ever laid eyes on.

I was mortified beyond belief and in shock, which is the only explanation for why I willingly gave some man I just met my number. In some way, this is all Jess’s fault, I’m sure of it.

Behind me, I can hear all the guys thanking me for saving them from Coach’s wrath. Meanwhile, the girls are giggling and tripping over themselves, but I don’t even bother stopping to hear what any of them have to say. All I want to do is crawl back in my bed, pull the covers up and forget tonight ever happened.

So that’s exactly what I do, at least until my phone starts ringing a few hours later. I fumble for my phone and answer the call.

“Hello?” I greet questioningly when an unknown number pops up on the screen.

“Jenni?”

I swallow the lump in my throat, recognizing the voice instantly as the Hottie Cop from the night before. Shoot, I can’t even remember his name. Did he even give me his name?

“Yes, this is her.”

“Huh… you actually gave me your number. I’m surprised. I had almost convinced myself that you gave me a fake one.” He chuckles, which is doing weird things to my body, things I’ve never felt before.

“What? Why would I give you a fake number?”

“I don’t know, girls do things like that, don’t they?”

“I don’t know, I don’t give my number out a lot. I would have to ask my friends, they would probably do something like that.”

“See? It’s a girl thing. Plus, I texted you a few times and you never responded. I figured as a last ditch effort, I would try to call you.”

Pulling the phone away from my head, I see that he did text me. Wow… six times in the span of two hours, huh.

“Oh, you did text me. Sorry, I guess after last night I was in a deep sleep, I didn’t even hear my phone.”

There’s an awkward pause in the conversation, and I have to look at the phone again to see if we got disconnected. We didn’t.

“Hello. Are you still there?” I ask him, over the silence.

A beeping sounds over the line, and then I hear his voice, it sounds further away now.

“Yeah, sorry about that, I was just getting into my car and the bluetooth took a minute to switch over.” I sigh out the tension I didn’t even know I was holding. “Are we still on for breakfast?”

“Breakfast?” I ask in confusion, my mind still trying to figure out why I was so worried when I thought he had hung up on me.

“Yes, Jenni, I asked you to breakfast this morning, and when you gave me your number, I thought that meant you were interested.”

“Oh, but I’m not dressed.” I tell him like the idiot that I am.

“Well… while I absolutely would have no problem if you decide to join me for breakfast in your outfit from last night, I do need to go home, shower, and change as I just got off the ice getting my butt beat by your friends. So I think you have plenty of time to put on a different outfit if you feel so inclined.” He teases me and causes my face to flush.

“I can’t believe I went to the police station in my pajamas.” I groan into the phone.

“I enjoyed it immensely, if that makes you feel any better.”

“It doesn’t.” I respond even though I’m lying as I feel my face heat up even more.

“Those pajamas made my whole night.” He chuckles again, and I feel it in every part of my body, even the parts I shouldn’t. “So, breakfast?”

“I guess I can do breakfast.” Wait… I can? What is it with this guy that has me stepping out of my comfort zone? Agreeing to things I never would have? Feeling things I shouldn’t be? I don’t even know him.
