WYATT

When we arrive at Heath’s, another truck is in the driveway. I instantly recognize it as Daniel Burke’s.

Heath’s business partner.

And my other boss.

We talked a little about how to handle this conversation with Daniel, but I thought we’d have a few more days at least before we had to come clean that we are in a relationship with Emily. All three of us.

I’m prepared to stop working for them, because I can do any kind of manual labour. But Heath swears up and down it’s fine.

I guess we’re about to find out.

Before I can explain that run of thoughts to Emily, she jumps out of my truck. “Rosie?”

A pretty brunette about Emily’s age appears from around Daniel’s truck. Emily must have seen her from the passenger side.

“Emily?”

I get out and follow at a polite distance.

“What are you doing here?” Emily asks.

Her friend blushes and plays with a diamond pendant hanging on a strand around her neck. “Daniel wanted to introduce me to his business partner.”

“Your boyfriend is…” Emily giggles. “This is a very small world. Come on.” She links arms with the other woman and drags her inside.

Which leaves me standing on the driveway, looking at my other boss, who’s just stepped out of his truck. “Wyatt?”

He glances to the house, where his very young girlfriend has just disappeared with my very young girlfriend, and then frowns back at me. “What are you doing here?”

“It’s a long story. You’re here to see Heath?”

“Yeah. It’s been a busy spring, and…” He grins. “I’ve been keeping Rosie a secret, but she’s told her parents we’re together, so now it’s time to share the news more broadly.”

“Mmm.” Well, that should take the sting out of what we have to tell him. “Let’s go inside, then.”

He gives me a strange look, like who am I to be so casual about inviting him into his business partner’s house?

I don’t have an etiquette guide for this. That’s Heath’s role in our dynamic.

Luckily, the man in question is waiting at the door. His gaze meets mine in a are we doing this? question, and I nod.

“So I’ve met Rosie, officially,” he starts. “Emily introduced her as your girlfriend. But I’m pretty sure we’ve met before, right? Isn’t she Mel’s friend?”

Daniel’s daughter? I grin. Fuck yeah, we’re fine.

To his credit, Daniel doesn’t look away. “We discovered a mutual attraction in Vegas.”

“Mel’s wedding.” Heath looks like he’s enjoying this. “The hot date you texted me about?”

Daniel grins. “Rosie.”

“Fuck you.”

“She’s perfect, Heath. I can’t help who I fall in love with.” Another grin. “And if I could help it, I’d pick Rosie over and over again. She makes me so fucking happy.”

Heath slings his arm around my shoulders. “So, about that. We have some news.”
