Daniel blinks. “You? And…you?”
“And me,” Emily says, sliding into the conversation as Rosie joins Daniel.
Our little miss wraps her arms around Heath, giving him a tight squeeze, then holds her hand out firmly in Daniel’s direction. “I’m Emily, by the way. We haven’t met yet, but I know Rosie from school, and obviously I’m a big fan of your colleagues here.”
I choke on a laugh. Colleagues.
But her brazen redirection of the conversation works.
Daniel nods a few times, visibly processing what he’s just learned. “Are they taking good care of you?” he finally asks.
She beams. “The best.”
Rosie kisses Daniel on his cheek. “Isn’t this fun? We’ll have to all get together to celebrate Emily’s birthday.”
At the same time, Heath and I turn to Emily and say, “When is your birthday?”
