Rylan didn’t wait to see if she obeyed his command, knowing she would give her life to save Walker and Willow, as would his father. He sprang forward, shifting in midair and destroying his clothes in the process.

He slammed into the first asshole he came to, taking the man down, sinking his fangs in deep and tearing his throat out. Once he was sure the enemy was dead, he went to the next threat, then the next. He heard the snarls and roars of his fellow cats, as they fought to keep their pride safe, all the time wondering who the hell was after them now.

It wasn’t too long ago that they’d fought off a dragon who was after Karma’s family, but that bastard was dead now. He was killed in a battle at Karma’s cousin, Alayna’s, home. No, this was a new threat. One they were unfamiliar with. One that would die as the first one had.

Rylan felt the sting of another bullet as it skimmed across his shoulder, and then he grunted when something slammed into his chest. He stumbled, his front legs buckling as he fell to the ground. Snarling, he raised his head, baring his fangs at a woman who stood not ten feet from him. Through a murky haze, he saw dark red hair, green eyes, and an evil grin. She threw her head back and laughed as she raised the gun again. “Hey kitty, kitty. Don’t you worry. I’m not going to kill you.”

Rylan snarled in rage when he realized she was using a tranquilizer gun. She pulled the trigger again, and the next dart embedded itself in his side. He roared loudly, struggling to his feet.

She will die for this!

Yes,he promised his lion. We will tear her heart out.

Rylan took a step in the woman’s direction, and then another, but the fucking tranq was working its magic, and he found he couldn’t focus. He shook his massive head, his thick mane flowing in waves around him, as he tried to remain conscious. It didn’t help. He heard the bitch’s laughter when he fell to the ground again, his chest heaving as he fought for breath.

“Don’t worry, kitten, I’ll take good care of you when I get you back to the lab.”

Kill her, his lion demanded, a deep growl working its way up his chest.

Rylan bared his teeth again, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t raise his head from where it was now resting on the ground.

“Take him to the warehouse. Put him with the others.”

Those were the last words Rylan heard before he succumbed to the darkness.
