I flopped onto the bed. “But our lives aren’t bad, right? They’re good.”

“I love my job,” she said. “But I don’t think I want to be a nanny for the rest of my life, obviously. I need to start making some plans. If the perfect job isn’t here, then I’m going to have to create it.”

I’d thought about that before. So many times. But freelancing or building a business scared the shit out of me. There was just so much risk, and I had everything to lose. I couldn’t fail in this town. I couldn’t handle what people would say.

“You know, I’ve learned some stuff from Piper. I could take some pictures of your stuff and write some descriptions and so forth for you.” I didn’t even have a social media page for my business. I knew I was missing out on sales by not hustling harder, but it was a hobby. It wasn’t my job. I couldn’t rely on it.

“Okay,” I said. “I mean, if you want to. I can’t pay you.”

“You can pay me in sweet, sweet lovin’,” she said.

“Oh my god, that was awful,” I said, but I kissed her anyway.

“You like it,” she said, grinning at me.

“I do.”
