Just One Wedding

---------------------------------------------------

Chapter 1

“Do you want to get out of here?” I asked the tall woman at the bar. I was on a mission and I’d zeroed in on her as my target.

“Sure,” she said, smiling and throwing back the last of the beer in her glass. I closed out my tab, putting her drink on my card along with my soda, my fingers trembling as I handed over my card.

Part of me was nervous, but it was a very small part. The other part of me, the majority, couldn’t wait to get this stranger naked and see what was beneath the crisp white shirt and trousers.

When I’d originally planned out this evening, I’d thought about just taking her to the bathroom, but I wasn’t sure how clean the stalls in this pub would be, and I didn’t feel like finding out.

“What’s your name?” the stranger asked as we stepped into the steamy summer night. The streets of Boston were crowded with other people enjoying themselves.

“Let’s not do names,” I said.

“Okay,” she said, falling into step beside me. Her legs were longer than mine, so she had to clip her pace to match me.

Her height was one of the things I’d noticed. The second was her jawline. Sharp enough to slice glass. From there, I’d moved up to her eyes, green as fresh grass.

That was it. She was the one I wanted.

I’d made my way over to her and struck up a conversation. I went in with the confidence that I was going to find someone to fuck and somehow, I had.

For my first one-night stand, I was succeeding so far.

“I’m just down here,” I said, turning down another street. Another reason I’d picked the pub for my hookup was that it was so close to my place. Well, my temporary place. I still had to decide what the fuck I was going to do and where I was going to live after my ex had kicked me out and changed the locks two weeks ago.

No, I wasn’t going to think about her. I was just going to think about the gorgeous creature beside me.

I fumbled with my keys for a second before getting the front door open and taking the stranger up the stairs to my place.

“This is nice,” she said as I let her through the door.

“Thanks,” I said, not telling her that I didn’t really live in this apartment. It was much nicer than my old place, which had been furnished mostly with pieces found on the sidewalk, discarded by other people.

I shut the door and went for it, going right up to her.

“I’m going to kiss you,” I said. Even though this was a hookup, I still wanted to make sure she wanted me too.

She smiled slowly.

“You’d better.”

Our height difference excited me as I pushed myself up on my tiptoes to reach her mouth.

Her lips descended on mine and I almost blacked out. I hadn’t kissed anyone but my ex in two years.

No, I wasn’t thinking about her. This was all about erasing her from my brain for a little while.

The stranger kissed me and held my face and stroked my newly pink hair. I’d dyed it in the bathroom of this place, squinting to read the directions on the bleach bottle and praying that all my hair didn’t fall out.

We never even made it to the bedroom. The couch was closer, and for a split-second, I wondered how many other humans had fucked on it.

Then she shoved her hand up my skirt and I forgot everything, including my own name.

It was hot and rough and fierce, and I surprised myself with my own boldness. I hadn’t had any alcohol on purpose. I wanted to have a clear head this whole time. I wanted to remember this: Fucking a stranger I picked up in a bar.
