My skin vibrated with power, and the sounds she made as I touched her and slid my fingers inside her turned me on so much that I came faster than I ever had before.

The stranger and I twisted and tangled with each other for hours. I learned the taste of the inside of her thighs, I learned the feel of her nipples getting hard against my fingers. I learned the way she sounded when she was begging to come.

I still didn’t know her name, but it didn’t matter. I knew much more important things.

Eventually, we did wear ourselves out, and I didn’t know what to do next. I hadn’t planned this part. The leaving part. Obviously, I wasn’t going anywhere, but how did you end a one-night stand? A handshake?

We had finally made it to the bed, and she lay next to me, staring at the ceiling.

I didn’t know what to say to her.

She rolled over and smiled at me.

“It was really great to meet you, Pinky,” she said, sliding a lock of my hair between her fingers.

She gave me a searing kiss and then got out of bed.

I watched from the bedroom as she retrieved her clothes and got dressed. It was a shame to put clothing on top of that glorious body of hers.

I tried to burn the image of her in my brain, because I was never going to see her again.

“Bye,” I said as she paused in the doorway and looked back at me.

“Bye,” she said, and then she was gone.

I flopped back on the pillows of a bed that wasn’t mine.

“Holy shit,” I said.

One year later…

“This place looks amazing,” Linley, my cousin, said as we walked up the steps of the newly refurbished Honeysuckle Inn. In less than a year, the place had gone from a run-down and neglected dump infested with raccoons, to a bright and vibrant inn bustling with activity.

“You’re going to love the manager, Alivia. She’s also their wedding coordinator and has been so helpful,” Linley said as we headed to the front desk. The interior of the inn was both cozy and coastal. Soft blues and greens and neutrals gave the impression of sea glass and beach sand and serenity. Several of the windows had panes of stained glass that threw bits of colored light around the room. Watercolors and canvases from local artists adorned the walls.

“Hi, I have an appointment with Alivia,” Linley said, pushing her purple glasses up on her nose. There was a bit of flour on her neck from the bakery, and she jumped as I wiped it off for her. We’d both come directly from our family bakery, Sweet’s Sweets, where I worked in a back office doing their social media, and Linley did the majority of the baking.

“She’ll be right out,” the desk clerk said, before turning away to answer the phone.

A family with multiple children clad only in bathing suits and wearing towels as capes ran by.

“This place is busy,” I said. The parking lot had been full when we’d gotten here, and there wasn’t a single empty chair or bench on the porch or the lawn.

Something made me look up at the same time someone descended the stairs. I met a set of green eyes that I had seen before, almost exactly a year ago.

“Oh,” I said, exhaling the word. I saw her shock of recognition as she floated over the tan carpet toward us in heels that made her even taller.

“Alivia, this is my cousin, Charli,” Linley said, completely oblivious to what was happening between me and the woman who was apparently named Alivia. I hadn’t known her name a year ago when I’d been fucking her on the couch of my temporary apartment. I hadn’t wanted to know her name at the time.

“Charli,” she said, her voice wrapping around the two syllables in a sensual way as she put her hand out. “It’s nice to meet you.”

Alivia. It was a beautiful name. It suited her.

I shook her hand with trembling fingers and pulled back as quickly as I could.

The smallest smirk played on Alivia’s lips, and I looked at Linley to see if she’d noticed, but she hadn’t.
