I was going to find out. I couldn’t deny myself anymore.

I’d always been bad at it.

Alivia stopped just short of my mouth. As if she was waiting for me to make the decision. To pull back or go forward, and she would be fine with either.

It was the easiest thing in the world to cross the last little distance between us and kiss her.

Oh god, I kissed her. I kissed her and it was so sweet.

Her lips were perfect, and even better than I remembered. I reached for her face to pull her closer, to kiss her more.

I inhaled and remembered the way she smelled. The way she felt. It was like being in two places at once. I was standing with her on the street outside that temporary apartment, and I was here with her in this moment.

Two kisses, but both incredible.

It hadn’t been a fluke. If anything, I’d downplayed that night.

Alivia kissed me and I pressed into her and reached for more.

She took my lead and then, before I knew what was happening, her tongue was in my mouth and her hands were roaming my shoulders and back and touching my hair and I was so turned on that it hurt.

Alivia kissed me harder. Commanding. Like she was in charge. I melted completely in her hands, surrendering to whatever she wanted to give, or take.

I was hers, completely.

“You’re so sweet,” she said, pulling back for a second. “So fucking sweet.” She’d said the same thing that night and I’d loved it then like I loved it now.

We were completely lost in each other and then there was a knock at the door.

I shoved myself away from her and tried to get myself together.

“Just a second,” Alivia said, her voice completely even. She smoothed the front of her shirt and took a breath through her nose.

She stood up and walked to the door, opening it just a little bit.

“Yes?” she said, speaking with the door only partially open so the person couldn’t see me.

There was a quick conversation before Alivia nodded and said she would be downstairs momentarily to deal with whatever the situation was.

Alivia closed the door and rested her forehead against it.

“Oops,” she said with a soft laugh.

“Yeah, oops,” I said, bringing a trembling hand to my mouth. “I didn’t bring you up here to make out,” I said. “I promise.”

“I know, but it happened anyway.” She faced me and there was a smile on her face. “I’m so glad you came up to me at the bar, Charli.”

“Me too,” I said.

“I’m really sorry, but I have to get back to work. You can absolutely stay if you want. Hang out in here. Have some snacks.”

I stood up and smoothed my dress down. I was still completely undone by that kiss.

I took a step just to make sure that my legs would actually still work. So far, so good. Alivia hadn’t completely turned me into goo.

“I should probably get going anyway,” I said. “Let you work without distraction.”

She laughed softly. “I’ll be thinking about you whether you’re here or not.”
