Same.

“Thanks for letting me crash,” I said, stepping toward her.

“Can I kiss you again?” she asked.

“Absolutely,” I said, and she gave me one of the softest kisses I’d ever had before opening the door and letting me walk through.

I made it down the stairs on wobbly legs and couldn’t make eye contact with the Callie, the desk attendant.

* * *

It was dinnertime when I got home after my make-out session with Alivia.

“Hey,” Natalie said when I walked through the door. I almost screamed.

“Hey,” I said, putting my hand on my heart. “I wasn’t expecting to see you.”

“Yeah, Em had to go to dinner at her parent’s and I begged her not to go. Since Wyatt and Gretchen are married, I’m technically family, but she got me out of it, so now I owe her.”

She fiddled with something on the stove. “Want some pasta salad?”

I absolutely did.

She also had some grilled chicken to go with the pasta salad, which was filled with cucumbers and tomatoes and mozzarella and drizzled with fresh basil and balsamic.

“So, what were you up to today?” she asked.

“Alivia invited me to the inn to watch this chaotic wedding reception, and then, um, we made out in her office.” I hadn’t intended to tell Natalie about the kissing, but it was nice to have someone to talk to about it.

“I thought you were going to stay away from her,” she said with a smirk.

“I tried. I did!”

“Uh huh,” Natalie said. “I bet you did.”

“I did try, but it was too hard,” I said. “It was just a kiss. We didn’t do anything else.” Only because we’d been interrupted. I had no doubt that if someone hadn’t knocked on the door, we probably would have done more.

“How was it?” she asked.

“Incredible,” I said, closing my eyes. “Somehow even better than last time.”

“I say you go for it. You don’t have to commit to anything. Just have some fun. Figure the rest out later.”

It was such a tempting idea, but I didn’t trust myself.

“I don’t think I can have fun without getting my heart involved. Too many complications.”

Way too many.

“I get it. You’re in a pickle,” she said.

“I am. I’m not going to kiss her again. I’m going to keep my hands to myself.”

“Okay,” Natalie said, but she didn’t seem convinced.

“I’m not,” I said.

Natalie just nodded and then changed the subject.
