“Yeah, I mean, I’m going to hyphenate, so I’ll be Linley Sweet-Baldwin. I just love the idea of sounding like a law firm,” she said with a laugh.

“I think I’d like to make one of those alternative names, you know, where you take your names and smash them together,” Paige said. “So ours would be Roman and Bell. Bellman? Rombell? Something like that.”

“Oh, are we getting married now?” Esme said, kissing her cheek.

We all tried not to look at each other and spoil Esme’s proposal plans.

“I mean, not right now. But someday,” Paige said, too focused on her chip dipping to see the rest of us trading glances.

“I don’t know what I’d do,” I said. “I think it would depend on the last name of the person. If it’s something really bad, I’d either keep my name, or do the mashup to something cuter.”

“I went to school with this woman who married a guy with the last name Butts. And her maiden name was Brown. So she was Linda Brown-Butts. It was so hard not to laugh when she introduced herself,” Natalie said.

We all burst out laughing and started coming up with the worst name combinations we could think of.

“Remember Dr. Slaughter, the dentist?” Paige said.

“Oh yeah, I remember her,” Em said. “She was always talking to me when she had her hands in my mouth. I never understood that.”

As conversations do, our topic shifted from names to dentists and our worst experiences.

My phone went off and I checked it to find a message from Alivia. It was easy to have the distance of text messaging with her. Texts were relatively safe.

Hiding in my office to avoid responsibilities. Help!

I laughed and answered her back. Just pretend you’re not you. You’re Alivia’s Evil Twin!

I could almost hear her laugh.

I don’t think that is going to fly, but I appreciate the effort.

I took a picture of my toes and sent it to her. What do you think?

She didn’t answer for ten minutes, so I assumed she was busy with work. That happened with her. I’d get a rush of messages and then silence while she was off doing her job. Same thing happened with me.

Very pretty. For the wedding?

YeahI sent back.

“Who are you texting?” Paige asked, peering over my shoulder.

“Alivia. She’s having a rough time at work,” I said, trying to keep my face neutral.

“You should invite her over,” Paige said.

“I did, but she’s got wedding receptions like every weekend for the next month,” I said.

“Including mine!” Linley yelled before starting to sing that song about going to the chapel to get married.

“You’re not getting married in a chapel,” Em said.

“I can still sing the song,” Linley said, and kept singing as we all joined in.

Since we were in a wedding mood, we had to watch all the best wedding movies.

“I can’t believe they’re twenty-eight and they act like that’s a million years old,” Esme said. “Why didn’t they make it thirty? It’s so random.”

“I know, but this movie came out a long time ago,” I said. I looked up when it was made and it came out when I was a baby.
