“Have a good night, Alivia,” Natalie said as they walked out, laughing together.

“Sorry, Natalie knows. It was kind of hard to keep things from her since we live together,” I said.

“It’s okay. I don’t mind if anyone knows. We’re both adults, right? Able to make our own choices.”

Right. I was an adult, and I could do adult things with Alivia tonight and then be a mature adult about it tomorrow. Tonight didn’t have to mean anything.

“Let’s go,” I said. “Oh, wait.” I grabbed a napkin and went and grabbed a few more desserts to take home with us.

“Smart,” Alivia said as I put the cookies in my purse and we walked out to her car.

“So, if you don’t want to see anyone, I can sneak you up the back stairs to my room,” she said.

“Sounds like a plan.”

* * *

I was nervous the whole drive back to the inn. The chairs were stacked out front, ready to be set up tomorrow, and the tent was ready in the back. Alivia parked in a spot marked EMPLOYEES ONLY and I got out of the car.

“Let’s go have a drink,” Alivia said, reaching her hand out for mine. It was the easiest thing in the world to slip my fingers between hers and follow her to a side door, up a narrow set of stairs, and down a hall where she unlocked a door.

“This is it,” she said, motioning around the room. It was bigger than I expected, with a lovely sitting area in a little alcove, a king-sized bed, and a really nice bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub.

“Very nice,” I said. She even had a little kitchen area with a microwave and minifridge in one corner, and a hot plate with a few pans.

“Yeah, I don’t really do much cooking, but that’s only because I can just sneak downstairs and use the kitchen whenever I want.” She opened the fridge and showed me what she had to offer for drinks. I selected a mini bottle of wine and opened it before she could ask me if I wanted a glass.

“This is really cute,” I said about the little sitting area with a couch and a chair and the TV.

There was also a bookshelf and I recognized some of Alivia’s favorite titles. Her library books were stacked neatly on top.

She sat down next to me on the couch and took her jacket off before popping the top of a beer and sighing.

“I like your place,” I said.

“Thanks, but it’s not really mine. I didn’t even decorate it. We kept things neutral in case we ever need to rent it out or have an employee stay here.”

The room was pretty neutral, but it matched the rest of the inn, with little pops of blue and green to brighten up the tans and grays and ivories.

“I’d use more dark colors and industrial design, but that’s just me,” she said. Alivia pulled out her phone and showed me a picture of a house.

“This is what I mean,” she said, and I flipped through the pictures. It totally matched her personality. More dark colors and sharper lines.

“But then sometimes I want to live somewhere cozy,” she said.

“I know what you mean. My place isn’t really cozy, but I’ve tried to make it with art and pillows and a rug and so forth. I love Paige’s cottage. That’s the kind of stuff I like.”

We drank and talked about houses and I remembered that we’d come here to have sex.

“Sorry,” Alivia said as she finished her drink.

“For what?” I asked.

“I had this whole plan to bring you up here and seduce you, but then I started talking about interior design,” she said with a laugh. “Some seducer I am.”

I set my empty wine bottle on the little table in front of the couch.

“You did a good job that night we met. You seduced me with one look,” I said, turning so I was sitting facing her.
