“You know the little blue house that’s just up the street from the inn?”

“Oh yeah, isn’t that Jake Garner’s place?” I asked.

“Not anymore. He moved in with Sandra Vale,” she said.

“Hold up, when did that happen? And how do you know the gossip?” I sat up and looked down at her.

“Callie is Sandra’s cousin, so that’s how I knew the place was available. They’ve been randomly renting it out to whomever, but I agreed to a year lease, so it’s mine. He’d just fixed it up too, so it’s really nice inside.”

She showed me some pictures, and the place was absolutely adorable. Not huge, but much bigger than the room at the inn she’d been staying in. Plus, she’d have her own kitchen and a little living room, and she was still close to the inn.

“It’s perfect,” I said, because it was. I could just see myself sitting on the little porch out front that faced the main road and waving to everyone who passed by while I drank lemonade.

“I’m moving in next week, if you want to come and help. Not that I have a lot of stuff. I’m going to need to decorate it too, even though it’s furnished.”

Plans were made between us as we lay with our sweaty bodies entwined. I checked in on my heart, to see if it was having any second thoughts about my proclamation.

All I felt was a glowing, singing sensation. Joy, pure joy. Joy and hope for the future with the woman in my arms.

My past was officially in the past.

Eventually we got out of bed and made our way to the kitchen to eat, but I just wore my underwear and one of my shirts, and Alivia borrowed a shirt and shorts from me.

“I was going to do candles and everything,” I said as we ate lukewarm chicken, cold potatoes, and wilted salad. It was still completely delicious.

Alivia kissed my shoulder.

“This is better,” she said.

It was. She complimented me on the food until I begged her to stop, and then she kissed me until I couldn’t breathe, and we fucked each other slowly on the kitchen floor.

“So, does this mean you’re officially my girlfriend?” We hadn’t yet said those exact words.

Alivia looked up from where she’d been resting her head on my stomach.

“I think that’s a given, yes,” she said with a laugh.

“Oh, good.”

“Did you have any doubts?” She sat up, looking down at me.

“No, but I just wanted to make sure.”

Alivia kissed me hard.“Be sure, Charli.”

There was that commanding voice that turned me inside out.

“I love you,” I said, just because I could.

“I love you,” she said, pressing her forehead to mine.
