“I didn’t know what you would like, so I have diet soda, regular soda, peanuts, and popcorn.” I set out all the snacks for him to choose something, and his eyes widen, almost bug out, at everything I have for what he probably thought was going to be a simple bingo night.

“You don’t mess around, not at all, do you?” He pulls for a regular soda and opens the tab.

“Not when thermal socks, a new toaster, and an Applebee’s gift card are on the line. Whoever wins the most yellow stars wins all three. I’ve been known to win a time or two.”

“Or ten,” Ms. Perry says from her own array of refreshments and daubers next to her. Gibson turns to the tiny gray-haired woman, an amused smile on his face.

“And what do you think she does with all her winnings?” Gibson asks. Ms. Perry is the last person he should question. She’ll tell him everything.

“Oh, Charis is a dear. She always gives it to the most needy person. I’ve been on the receiving end a time or two and it’s just so sweet of her.”

I blush at Ms. Perry’s praises, because I honestly don’t want any.

“Yeah, I’m starting to understand how sweet she really is,” Gibson responds. He moves from Ms. Perry on one side of him, to me on the other, and tips my chin to his, giving me a chaste kiss on the lips. “You’re such a surprise. Everything I learn about you has me only wanting to get to know more and more.”

“Ah, he’s a keeper, Charis,” Ms. Perry says, in our little moment of what seems very intimate in the middle of bingo.

I saymy goodbyes to Letta and the whole gang after just five games. And because I’ve won four out of the five games, giving me four yellow stars, I hand them over to Mr. Butler, who is down on his luck at the moment.

“Where are we going, Mr. Smith?” I ask, and my voice turns to that of a little kid, like I want this man to really teach me something. He’s a bit bossy and for some reason, I like being dominated by Gibson. And I’ve never even considered this.

“Well, my idea isn’t as good as yours.”

I place my hands in my pockets, standing on my tiptoes to reach his lips. “Don’t sell yourself short. If you’ve not noticed, this isn’t a traditional date, so give it to me.”

He raises one brow higher than the other. “Oh, really, right here?” he jests with a sensual tease.

“Get your mind out of the gutter, Mr. Smith.”

He leans in for a kiss, but it starts sweet, and we hear snickers behind us. We turn quickly, and there are about ten of the seniors’ faces glued to the glass door who don’t care we’ve caught them. They just start waving at us.

“And that’s our cue to leave,” he starts, grabbing for my hand, walking about a block to a small little coffee shop. “See, I told you it wasn’t very original, but here’s the thing, I feel so comfortable with you. I would have never made the lewd joke I did before with anyone, but with you, I feel like I can be myself with no pretense. And I love to talk uninterrupted.”

This time, I take the lead, only for him to take over immediately. The kiss doesn’t start out sweet, and his hand lands on my ass, while he pulls me into his body, and I feel his erection straining against his jeans.

I pull away after a kiss that could cause the café to burn. “Ah, we’re about to enter into a PG-13 scene, for a G rating setting,” I explain, staring at the hazel of his eyes with a yellow ring circling them. It’s so unique, as this man who protected me with a fake gun is.

“Yeah, I guess you’re right, but I won’t lie, I’d eventually like to get to an R rating with you.”

I can’t contain my laughter and I simply reply, “Me, too.”
