“Yeah, Vréfos.” This is my mama. “They found him. He’d passed out in the car and broke down at the idea he hurt Meadow. His aim was to take out Stone, or Gibson. Not Meadow.”

As horrible as Jimmy is, this I believe. Or maybe in my own mind, I have to believe he’d not willingly hurt his own daughter. “The evidence is overwhelming. And your lawyer has been called, another thing Stone did for you. It’s apparently what they refer to as a slam dunk case, with Bridget’s testimony. Oh my gosh, her husband, the other doctor, he just got Bridget to leave Gibson’s side.”

Gibson? Hell, I’ve not asked about him. What is wrong with me?

“He’s out of surgery. There was bleeding in his brain and they fixed it, and his leg, though he may not have full mobility, they saved it.”

I search my papa’s face, wondering what his thought of two lovers will be.

“Koukla, I just want you to be happy. If both men can do it, then go live your life the way you see fit. And know I’ll forever be your number one fan.”

The automatic doors open, Stone stepping into the room.

“Love, did your parents tell you about Teach?”

I rush to our bossy doctor, almost knocking him over. “Thank you for taking care of everything.”

He uses his index finger to tip my chin to his line of sight. “I’ll always take care of you.”

My arms wrap around his waist when a gasp from my mom has us both turning around. The blues of my sweet baby’s eyes begin to flutter open. “Mommy?” It’s weak, and low, but it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard.

“Vréfos.” I rush over to her. “Mi_téra has you.”

Simon givesmy Meadow a clean bill of health. And just yesterday when Bridget couldn’t revive her, she’s now sitting up in bed, sipping a little bit of water.

“Koukla,” my mom begins, stroking my hair. “I’ve got her. You go see Gibson. It’s where Stone is right now.”

I’ve been putting this off. I can’t face him. Because of Jimmy, he could have lost his leg. Hell, he could have lost his life. And more so, I’d been so upset, pissed off in a way, I could have killed him.

“Charis, you need to face him. Bridget told us you thought he was to blame for the accident at first. But that’s how any person would feel given the details you had. And as far as Jimmy goes, this is all on him. You have no guilt you should feel. If you don’t go see him, we’ll go home and clean the house.”

She gives me a little smirk, and though she’s joking this one time, she’s right. I have to face Gibson.

The room is dark, but it’s light enough that Stone is in bed with Gibson. This of course is against hospital policy, but Stone’s never been a great rule follower.

“GG.” He catches sight of me right away. “Come here, please.”

Knowing Stone, he’s probably told him the guilt I carry. “Meadow is going to be okay, I heard.” His voice is strangled a bit, but I step over the threshold to get to him.

“Teach, you shouldn’t be talking a lot. I mean, you did just have brain surgery.”

Leave it to Stone to make the room light with his humor.

“Greek Goddess, get over here.”

“Still bossy when it comes to you, love.” This is Stone, and I begin to laugh at what he’s just said.

There’s a chair on the other side of where Stone is snuggled up to Gibs. I sit down, pulling his fingers into mine.

“Hell, Gibs, I’m so sorry. And fuck, thank you for protecting my daughter.”

“GG, you have nothing to apologize for. I’d do anything for her and you.”

I rest my head on his hand, and somehow in all of this, I know we’ll come out stronger on the other side. And in what started out as a nightmare, with these two by my side, they have become my dream come true.
