NINE MONTHS LATER

CHARIS

“Are we really doing this?” I ask, pulling for two weeks’ worth of clothes from my closet.

So much has changed for us in the last nine months. Gibson has given his notice to the school. He won’t be returning next year. My house, at three thousand square feet, has the lived-in feel both Gibs and Stone want in a home, minus the luxurious kitchen Stone demands, and the construction will take place under the watchful eye of Stone’s contractor while we’re gone. All five of us are going on a trip.

Stone has my new suitcase he bought for this reason on my bed. Soon to be all three of our beds. Gibson’s stuff is already moved in, as we’d taken one of the side bedrooms upstairs to make a bigger closet to house all three of our clothes. Stone will be officially moving out of his house, when we return but both O’Leary men have stayed every night since Gibson has taken occupancy here.

The construction, or expanding the kitchen by six hundred square feet, barely started, but I didn’t want to live through the brunt. Thus, our trip I’m currently packing for.

“Love, what’s taking so long? We leave in the morning, and I’d like to get some sleep before the long flight.”

He’d volunteered for bed time routine.

He’d let Jett decorate his new room in our house, a house that will have three of our names on the deed.

Jett took the challenge of picking out everything for his new room like a champ and he’d been excited to choose the most unusual items. From a dinosaur comforter, an American football lamp, pictures of Star Wars to adorn his wall, and green curtains, he’s been quite pleased with his eclectic selection.

Meadow loves the idea of a big brother, and that’s what she keeps calling Jett. Jett, of course, is happy to have someone he can boss around. He’s too much like his father.

“I’m working on it, baby,” I reply at Stone’s complaints I’m taking too long.

Gibson crosses the threshold with the use of his cane that he may have to employ for the rest of his life. Some men may hate it, and it’s certainly not our man’s favorite thing, but considering he came so close to losing his leg, he’ll take it over the other option.

“Give her a break, Doc. You’ve given her one small suitcase for two weeks. You’re asking a lot of our girl.”

Gibson makes his way over to me, peppering kisses down my neck. With only a tank top and panties on, my neck is just asking to be kissed.

“We don’t have time for that right now, Teach,” Stone complains.

“Hey, how can you call him Teach when he’s now a published author?” I ask.

Yeah, with all the time on his hands after the accident, it didn’t take him long to pen the all-American novel he’d talked about for years. His friend’s publishing firm picked it up. Releasing last week with his first work, the novel has been deemed a success with highly noted authors giving editorial reviews.

“Yeah, Lance is already asking for book two, considering it ended on a cliffhanger.” The book had been so good, I devoured it in one sitting. The sadistic bastard wouldn’t let Stone or me read it until after it was done.

“You’ll always be Teach to me, it’s how I met you, and if it hadn’t been for the penis like a skyscraper incident, we may not have this.”

He pulls Gibson in for a kiss, and somehow, packing stops, the suitcase gets moved, and we are doing everything but getting ready for our trip—our trip that is bound to change our lives.

GIBSON

Stone had once told me if I wanted to go back to Scotland, I should if not for any other reason than I wanted to. With only the best for Stone and those he loves, he has Meadow and Jett buckled up across from us in first class, and the three of us in a row to ourselves, enjoying our complimentary champagne.

“Why can’t I’s gets bubbly minerals?”

Stone has rubbed off on Meadow and she uses a lot of his Englishy-Irish slang.

“How about we get you Sprite instead? That’s close to this?” I ask, as I get the stewardess’s attention.

“Yeppers, that’s goods with me.” She really is the easiest kid in comparison to Jett, who’s a great child, but wild like his father.

“Hey, Teach, what are you looking most forward to?”

Stone, in his over-the-top way, reached out to the new owners of my grandparents’ old farm. And because Stone never does anything half-assed, he has a whole day arranged and somehow talked them into having us stay for dinner.
