Moments passed, and she swore he saw her standing there, but he continued to ignore her. He continued to listen to the girl next to him like she was telling him about how to end world hunger when all she was talking about was a vacation.

“Excuse me,” she said rather loudly, and everyone at the table looked up at her but him. He said she couldn’t him call by his name. “I need to talk to you.” She kept her eyes on him as he slowly looked up.

“Who are you?” His words were a complete shocker.

Her jaw dropped, and she lost her voice.

“Looks like another one of your fans.” One guy laughed. “She doesn’t even know your name.”

She ignored all the voices and kept her eyes on him. “You asked me to meet you here for dinner.”

“Rana, did you?” the girl next to him asked, pouting.

To her utter surprise, he shook his head. “I have no idea who she is.”

“What?” She was starting to shake with anger.

“Excuse me for a bit,” he said to the girl next to him before standing up to walk over to her. He gestured her to step aside from the table and smiled.

“What the heck is this?” she demanded, stepping close to him.

“Calm down.” He flashed a charming smile at her. “I said I’ll see you here for dinner, not sit with you.”

She felt the burn in her stomach. “You are lame. Such an ass,” she spat.

“Just because you got me to ask you out once, you think it’s that easy to get to me? Now, you’ll need to impress me way more than everyone else does, and then I might consider.” He chuckled, that sexy smile of his driving her hackles up. “You need to up your game… by a lot.”

Irritated and embarrassed by the way he set her up, she grit her teeth and reached for the fabric of his T-shirt. Using her fisted palm on his chest as the anchor, she pulled herself up to mash her lips with his. It was a quick kiss, but she wanted to send a message to him and everyone around her.

She lowered herself away from him and realized his arm was wrapped around her waist. She didn’t care they were surrounded by hundreds of students, but she knew she couldn’t sleep that night without getting back at him within the rules of the deal.

She looked up at him, ignoring the shocked looks, and said, “I hope that’s a good enough start. Dinner. Tomorrow. Same place, same time.” For someone who could dodge punches with their eyes shut, avoiding her kiss should have been easy. But he didn’t. She’ll get him, and she knew it would be sooner than he thought.

He had a wicked smile and nodded.

With those words, she turned away from him and left the cafeteria that had fallen silent. She didn’t need to look at him to know he was still watching her with that wicked smile of his on his gorgeous effing face.

Nami was not thrilled. He was the rival, and why is it that there was no other way to get a reaction out of him except by kissing him?

Why the heck did she do that? Again.

Shortly after, she stepped into her housing unit, closing the door quietly behind her. Vasavi was back to attending classes, but she knew she had to be in her room. She went straight to Vasavi’s room to check on her.

A short knock and she opened the door to find her roommate watching a movie, a tub of popcorn in her lap. “Hi, Nami.” She patted the spot next to her on the bed. “Come watch the movie with me.”

Nami smiled as she walked to the foot of the bed. “How were your classes today?”

“It was good to be back.” She smiled. “How was your day? You look like you could crash any minute.”

“I’m tired.” She sat at the foot of Vasavi’s bed, her knees weak for more than one reason.

Vasavi tsked. “Have you eaten yet?”

Nami shook her head, and the next second, Vasavi was on her feet. “How can you not eat? I have some soup in the warmer.” She was practically out the door before Nami could object.

She smiled, thinking of how welcoming and warm Vasavi was when she arrived at Simha. Such a sweet person, and she did not deserve how she was treated for accidentally scratching a car. Although she had to make a deal with her family rival, she had no regrets about her actions the night before.

“Just eat this soup before you sleep.” Vasavi was back in a few minutes with steaming hot food and snacks on a tray that Nami had a sudden craving for.
