Vasavi placed the tray next to Nami. “Thank you, Vasavi. You’ve been such a good friend.”

Her roommate fell silent for a long moment, and Nami wondered what was bothering her roommate.

“Everything okay?” Nami asked, sipping the soup.

Vasavi nodded, but the perplexed look persisted. “I know I should not care, but I can’t stop thinking who would have done that to Varun’s car and why?”

Nami managed to let out a casual chuckle. “Isn’t that what the entire campus is wondering about?”

“Yes, and someone asked me if I had anything to do with it.” Vasavi suddenly looked worried.

Nami pushed away her growing concerns. “It’s ridiculous people even thought that.”

“Well, everyone knows about our breakup and what the fuss was about.” Her roommate was suddenly melancholy.

“Vasavi, cheer up. Don’t think about what happened. Finish your movie.” Nami attempted to get the girl out of the sad and worried mood she was getting into.

“Good idea.” Vasavi laughed.

Relieved the girl was back in her chirpy mood, she got up to leave. “Good night. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Just as Nami was walking into her room, her phone buzzed a notification. It was yet another update on the Simha Newsletter, and this time there was a picture of her kissing Rana.

“Great,” she said under her breath before throwing the phone on the bed and walking into a much-needed shower.

She needed to wash off more than the dirt and exhaustion, she needed to clear her mind of these undying feelings. The ones that got stronger despite how much she hated everything he did.

The following day was her initial pitch for her architecture project. It was going to make or break her opportunity to come back to Simha the next semester. She had spent some time in the morning rehearsing and also planned to brush up on her notes during lunch.

Vasavi and Ramya were with her at the cafeteria as she sipped on her smoothie. “I hope I get this right.” Nami was nervous.

Vasavi patted her shoulder. “Chill. Your preso is really good.”

“I just hope I get my point through.” Nami took in a deep breath, replaying the sequence in her mind.

“You just—” Vasavi’s words were lost when Ramya gasped loudly.

“You kissed Rana in the cafeteria?” Ramya’s eyes were wide in shock. “In front of everyone?”

Nami shrugged. “It’s nothing.”

“Really? You tell us you don’t need distractions and now this?” Ramya was suspicious.

Nami was so close to being caught in her lie. “It was a dare, and he was getting on my nerves, so I had to nip it in the bud.”

“Rana was?” Vasavi seemed taken aback. “He is not that way from what I’ve seen of him.”

“It’s nothing. Chill.” Nami winked at the girls tauntingly as she used the word chill the way they both did.

“Whatever.” Ramya rolled her eyes before getting up to shower. “I got to go. I’m already late.”

“Is that new? You being late?” Vasavi teased her friend, and Nami could only laugh with relief that her cousin dropped the topic about her and Rana. She wanted to keep everything as low-key as possible.

She needed to get her presentation out of the way and then focus on getting her rival too. She was still annoyed with how he made her behave and make her emotions go haywire. She brushed away any thoughts of him and headed into the shower. She had a long day.

Shortly after when she stepped out of the bathroom, her phone was buzzing. She scrunched her nose, wondering who was it that was messaging her. To her utter shock, there were over a hundred messages, and they were all the same exact ones and from the same person. And they kept coming like some program was spamming her. They were all from Rana.
